fading the bass out with software

does anyone know of a wave editor (ie; sound forge, cool edit, etc..) that allows you to take a part of a wave file and fade the bass, not just EQ it but fade it.?

thanks for the help

You can do it in cool edit pro 2
there is a filter called "quick filter" with 2 pages of settings, initial and final settings.
this is not the best equalizer, there is only 8 unparametric bands but it can do what you need.

He said not JUST EQ'ing it. He's trying to say he doesn't want to just cut the bass, he want's to be able to fade it in and out. Well, thats what I got from it. And ya, Cool Edit (Adobe Audition now?) works great.

fade?

why not just envelope it to fade it.

correct me if im wrong but fading usually consists of volume panning.

althi it depends on your definition of a fade.

U could use cubase SX and change the low pass filter realtime while recording. This would change deep tones from getting louder and softer.

hey,
if you have a multiband compressor in your setup, you could do something similar to this:

1.set the lowest band to everything lower than 120-150hz
2.make sure that the threshold of each band is set to 0db, so that no compression will actually take place
3.leave all the other higher frequency bands alone
4.automate the lowest bands gain/volume, and this will change the volume of the low tones and leave the rest of the waveworm unnafected.
5. You can also adjust the cutoff of the lowest band to suit your sound, ie if you only wanted to fade the really low bass, set it to round 80hz etc...

maybe you could import the track into your sequencer (cubase, fruity, sonar, logic, traction, even reason) and automate the eq plugin.

yeah find software with envelope interface I know ACID 4.0 has it. With envelopes you can bring parameters in and out in real time.
