Of course he's got some nice hardware compressors (likewise, so does armin), but you can get some pretty good results with software compressors I'm sure. If you use reason, try taking a kick with nice lows that occur at the initial punch of the kick, not where the kick starts with mids and has lows 20 ms later (those are so annoying, stop making them whoever you are, assholes), and add compressor after compressor after eq after compressor after eq after...you get the point. Add a second sample for different frequencies to add to the kick and really get experimental. The only rule to making a good kick: there are none, shwing!
