Melodies in FL Studio

I'm crap at creating a decent melodie. I've seen if a few mix files from other people where they have in the piano roll drawn say a 5 second note on C6 then another under that on G#5 and then under D#5 and so on. Is this the way I'd create a synth or pad or even bassline by using mutliple notes under one another instead of using single notes? Would this be called layering?

multiple notes at the same time = chords

basslines are usually single notes

well

I use fruity so heres advice.

ok theres difrrent ways to write melodeys/leads/bass

if ur doing normal bass
simple notes are fine if your gonna apply glide effect simply overlap a block to the next note where u want it to glide/pitch to.

Leads for trance i always say start simple a good way is to have a low note 2 blocks then high note then low then high so u get that bassy sound from your lead along with the higher notes give me ur email i will send a example flp file.

i will do a simple bass lead and srings and u can save as a template.

the hard way to learn how to make classic trance melodies is to use your ears.

the easy way is to download some midi files.

yup

Trance leads alone are very simple.Especially in a sequencer there is alotta work to make em sound just right but note placement is rather easy and if u use fruity sequencer its easy as pie.
