Anti-depressants

I'm curious about antidepressants.

I want to know more about them like the teen suicides related to them and how much they actualy help.

Any info you have would be helpful.

everything has side effects. if you take something to control your emotions and you dont have a regular dose into your body, you could be emotionally unstable. *this is my totally unproffessional opinion by the way. drugs are bad. if you can get over your problem without depending on them, i say, do it.

I've been on Celexa since May 2002. It's a small dose (20mg/day), but it works wonderfully, so there was never a reason to up the dose.

Basically, it just increases your uptake of serotonin into the brain. It is not a HUGE increase (like MDMA). It usually takes 1-2 months to take any kind of effect.

Note however that MDMA and alcohol conflict with most anti-depressants, so be ready to give both up.

I was looking at a small dose anyways. I've always been against using them and would much rather just have a more therapy-based approach but I need something. I have no problem with giving up E since I rarely do it and alcohol is something I've been cutting down on quite a bit anyways.

I mainly want to know about the suicide cases, like if the kids were on high doses of a certain drug or whatnot. Also just how fake you feel while on a small dose of them, etc.

why dont you try a b vitamin complex to start? or maybe that works only for women... i forget. but there are some natural alternatives like st johns wort that work well for some people.

I have never felt fake while on Celexa. I have always felt like myself.

You cannot rely on the drugs entirely tho. You have to want to be happier and make the right decisions in your life. The drugs simply help you stay out of the dark places.

That's what I want. I stuck myself in therapy for help but I still need something to help me along.

My mothers a nurse though so she keeps telling me that it might make me suicidal.

You can't take anti-depressants forever.

It works best alongside thereapy sessions with a shrink!

So yeah, go see a shrink.

there was a big media flipout last year about it making you feel suicidal. I personally, have never felt this way while on Celexa.

What I've heard is that it is a side effect in the first few weeks. I also think it is for higher dosages.

My only suggestion is that you start on a small dosage, and don't start taking it while you are seriously depressed. Start when you're feeling pretty good. If you notice any abnormal side effects, be in contact with your doctor.

Regular side effects that I felt when I first started was dry mouth, insomnia, and difficulty ejaculating, which are common side effects and went away after about a month.

With regards to insomnia, it might make you drowsy... it's different for every person. If it keeps you awake, take it in the morning, and take it at night if it makes you drowsy.

I should also mention that the perscription costs me about $51.60cad for two months (60 pills)... which I don't actually pay a cent of cuz of my drug benefits.

just from talking to friends and from my own personal experience, the suicide effect could be due to when you seriously depressed you have no energy to do anything (even kill ur self). But when you first start taking anti-depressants you get an up surge of energy and are able to do things. Some use this opportunity to kill themselves.

You're not going to get a sudden urge to kill ur self if you down a pill, but if you have reoccurring sucidal desires before takeing AD then obviously you should be very care about going on anti-depressants.

A lot of the time people will commit suicide after taking an anti-depressant for a while and then they all of a sudden stop taking it.

I've also heard that St. John's wort which is a natural anti-depressant is only a temporary fix and causes high blood pressure.
