Has anyone gone through with the International Bac.? I have an opportunity to do it, but I'd like to hear other opinions first

Eh I did it. Waste of time if you ask me. If your school has a good AP program I would just do that instead. You'll get the same college credits with less work ... assuming you want to go to school in the US of course.

I think it's a waste of time as well, not because it's easy or hard, but because there are alot of colleges that don't accept IB credits. Like somebody had already said, if you can take AP classes, do that instead of IB.

I did it. If you're going to the states for college, don't do it. Its extremely underrated there. Overall I found it quite good, pretty stressy at times, but prepares you well for uni

the thing is, the rest of the AP/honors classes in my school is really really bad. I think the only way I could really learn anything would be to do this. How much work is involved in this?

More work than you really need to do in high school. You'll probably end up taking all your IB tests and AP tests because some schools don't accept IB credit or they'll weight it funny (for example they may require a 6 or a 7 for credit, whereas they may accept a 4 or even a 3 for APs). Then there's a crapload of writing ... a serious crapload that they send to Geneva for all your english courses. Then you have your written and oral examinations that they tape and send to Geneva for your language requirement. Then you have to maintain a good lab book because they send that to Geneva too. Then you have your IB paper which is some 30-50 pages in length (I think). Oh yea, they also tape and record an oral commentary in English class that they send to Geneva. Then there’s also your IB history paper they send off. Then you need to do community service for christ's sake. God what a clusterfuck of shit that you have to do. I'm probably forgetting half the stuff you need to do too, but I worked harder in High School than I did for college.

In retrospect I should have went to my home school which had a good AP program, but I'm a retard. If your school has a crappy AP program that you're not going to learn anything from (and you can't learn it on your own) then you might have to suck it up. It's not hard ... it's just work.

Yea I did the IB program, and Occ is pretty much dead-on with his description. Only my writing benefitted from taking IB courses, but for the most part the classes were a joke.

+1 to occrider's post.

it did help me learn to manage my time though, and when i got to NYU, i got twice the amount of credit then AP courses. meaning say if i took the AP English exam, i would only have gotten 4 college course credits. but with the IB English exam, i got 8 college credits. why? no clue....this all assuming you pass them and all of course.

I went through it, but I failed a couple of exams. I was really pissed that I failed chemistry, which I got straight As in.

I would say it was worth it though. It wasn't that hard, and college was really easy afterwards. It rounds you out, and I would highly recommend it.
