there are no top 40 raves. even concerts hardly make a didnt because of the hours they run. Until we get a mega club like government which combines the clubbers and ravers into one massive, it will be very hard to do except in very small venues. |
and small venues don't work. the other thing is promotion. the first harding appearance got huge promotion adn the club was filled to the brim. it seems to me, its all about getting the right person/people at the right time.
it's also about how hard nosed some people can be. i know my friends from high school and such listen to hiphop/top 40/etc and i've asked them to come to events i'm at/nye/etc, and they come up with the lamest excuses.. the one guy from my university i did bring, who's never really listened to trance before, loved it, and wanted to keep coming back. seems that another issue is getting people to open their minds. i go to their top 40/hiphop stuff, because i want to be with my friends, not because of the music (most times, i'm up for that kind of stuff once in awhile).
but yes, most clubs/bars are interested in money, are interested in having patrons, etc. to them, top 40/rock/hiphop/alternative sells locally (and it does, the mainstream radio stations/pop culture/local culture all aid to that as well as local promotion and relationships/promotional events).
as sean said, until there's a venue willing to support the music/scene on a regular basis, and until that venue and its supporters can rise above the absolute underground underground (im not shooting for something you'd hear about in ibizia and having people travel to from across the globe here!), then clubs and owners are going to continue to turn their backs as we've seen over the last few months.

Trance Nights
My buddy and I just started a new residency at Viva on Saturday nights and the whole promotion thing is somewhat difficult. It seems that people come out in gobs for the big name DJ's but for the local stuff, it seems to be a little light, especially out in Richmond. I am sure that you guys have all had a chance to check out Viva and I know it has a history. Try and come out sometime and see whats going on, we are open to a number of different ideas and concepts, so if anyone has any, let me know.
As for the Trance scene out here, it is definetly sparse so its good to support others whenever possible, we would be more than happy to support in return.

/rant, im just giong nuts but this is fun. and probly not even on topic. BUT!
FACT : 87% of statistics are made up on the spot!
i say the higher the BPM the lower the quality of people
more BPM more unsocial activity, less interesting people, less educated ,more water is consumed. Individual "class" goes down, and more water is consumed.
More BPM has less sex.
More BPM has less thought.
More BPM has younger ages.
More BPM has bad teeth.
More BPM enjoys car alarms that much more.
more BPM is better at DDR (dance dance revolution)
More BPM has stronger forearms and wrists
MORE BPM has longer hair,
More BPM has larger collection of fake fur materials.
hmm i will add to this later its pretty fun and kills time, and gets me thinking.
oh ya more BPM less money made by djs?....thats a tricky one........... Considering armin is being praised like no tommorrow.
He said in one of his shows, ASOT 187 i think that trance is always back and forth.
ah well some of it is pretty sweet,

Saturday nights aren't difficult to promote. There are several reasons why you're night will become a dismal faliure.

You're not a real DJ.

Are you aware of the history at Viva? Obviously not. The BEST trance DJs in the city were playing there for the past 3 years, not to mention out of town guest DJs like Misja Helsloot, John Askew, Ronski Speed and Niklas Harding.

The trance scene is hardly 'sparce' as you call it. I'm sure it seems that way for someone as out of touch as yourself, but that's to be expected. You might be able to fool clueless people with your foolish banter, but people who are educated will see through your fabricated nonsense.
