when i worked at this nice steak house as a server, i didn't really get fired, but i could tell they wanted to get rid of me, so they kept messing with me until i quit. it was really shitty because i was a really good worker. i have a good work ethic...i was always on time for my shifts, i never called in like all the other loser servers. i got along with everyone... i think i called in sick like 2 times in my 9 months of working there, and both times i was legitimately sick.
anyway, i realized that there are A LOT of politics in the restaurant business and after i "quit" (they pretty much made me feel like i was a shitty server and like i was going to get fired, so i said fuck it and i left), i continued friendships with several of the servers and i found out so much shit that i was oblivious to. i guess a group of servers (the same ones who wouldn't show up for shifts all the time, and never got fired) did coke and smoked weed w/ the managers...just stuff like that.
then i realized why they (managers) didn't like me. cuz i wasn't their "buddy" and i was just there to work and not make friends and i never hooked them up with drugs. pretty pathetic.
the funny part is i know a lot of people at that restaurant thought i was like this little straight laced chick just because i didn't really party with any of them or show up to work all blasted or yayed up.
HA!
but yea, even though they didn't technically "fire" me, i still felt like i had been fired and i was really pissed about it for a while.
just brush it off. if you know inside that you were a good worker, etc., then don't let it get to you.
see like if i ever got fired from this job, i'd just be like oh well, cuz i'm on this damn website all day hahaha...but yea, the restaurant thing pissed me off cuz i actually worked my ass off. |
I have a very similar situation at my job as a cashier for a local grocer. I'm pretty much the only person who always shows up on time, always takes breaks within the limits, etc. etc. --- basically the only one who believes in professionalism. I know it sounds narcissistic, but it's true. I looked at the productivity sheets yesterday and I have the most sales/hour -- even more than the people who work in the liquor store! People hardly ever get fired though, because they all party together and live in the same neighborhood.
I don't know if they hold it against me, but I never get invited to their parties and I'm still waiting on a well deserved promotion and raise (only at $6/hr after 18 months). Everybody seems to know that I may as well be supervising, but it hasn't happened for some reason. I actually think that's just because our store director is an asshole who gets bonuses for keeping wages and overtime down. He'll leave us short people on the busiest day of the week if it means keeping overtime down.
