hi, i've been using my EMU 1820 for the last 5 months and i think it's time to move on to the next level,the one with no troubleshootings..."loosing" the drivers during playback or updates that dont improve nothing at all.my budget is around 4-500£ so i'm quite close to buy a good sound card(new or second hand) if any of you can help me out.i was thinking to go for MOTU828 MK2 but it seems that it's not quite friendly with PC so i'll skip that.i would prefere a firewire one since PCI it seems a desapointing feature of many sound cards.

I've been running an M-Audio card through PCI for a couple of years now and it has never given me a single problem. If you want to go to the level of motu, maybe have a look at the 10/10 although I have no idea how much they cost.

I can't tell you how happy I was getting rid of any creative card I had... This is specifically about the audigy. As soon as I had it exchanged for an audiophile 2496 my computer never crashed again... with the audigy my pc crashed about 5-10 times a day.
Personally i would stay well clear of the soundblaster range, as they are very unstable and are not up to standard quality wise. It is true that the MOTU range can be quite unstable with the pc, but it all depends on what you are running. In that price range i would no doubt go for the Echo Layla 3G sound card. It is of superior quality to most other sound cards under £500 and has a variety of inputs and outputs. It is not a firewire card, but has a nice 1U breakout box and in my opinion is far beter than any other soundcard in your price range.

they have crappy drivers especially for asio.
Exact same story here on my end. My Audigy 2 ZS gased me out and then I got the 2496 and its been perfect ever since.
