Waves makes for me the best professional FX.But for the delays, the Ohm Force Ohmboyz is great! Ozone makes great FX for mastering and distortion too!
And there are a lot more...

Waves for sure! Timeworks makes some very good plugins too. I really like the timeworks reverb! Elemental Audio has been making some really good ones aswell, including a completely new multiband compressor, that compresses the mix not over the freq spectrum, but over the amplitude!
Good times for vst people indeed!

Voxengo and Kjaerhus Audio are almost universally very highly regarded. Some (many?) rate their plugins higher than Waves'.

I agree with Voxegeno. Their sonic maximiser is one of my favourite compressors. I use it as more of an fx than a compressor its that nice to use.
Antares do a good Filterbank.
NI Spectral Delay does some pretty amazing things to sound too.

hardware based - have to go with Eventide...
soft based - bomb factory (bought out by Protools) and TC electronics (hard/soft). Also, tRax is good

And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

I own 2 UAD-1 cards, Poco, and Spinaudio Roomverb..
UAD Compressors and Cambridge EQ is top stuff and fantastic, Spin Roomverb is great for the price (good quality) and Poco is great all rounder...
Waves stuff is great and there is some quality 3rd party stuff(Voxengo and Kjaerhus Audio, etc)...
