Wierd problem with M-Audio 2496

I'm having this latency problem with my M-Audio 2496 card. Thought I might post up here incase anyone has had the same problem.

I'm using Cubase SX 2 with 10 or so VST instances. It works fine for quite a while and then sometimes when I start up the project, the output latency will shoot up to something rediculous like 254,000+ ms or something. The input latency stays at a solid 6 ms though. I end up having to re initialise the ASIO drivers to get it working again. I'm using latest M-adudio drivers etc..

Strange no?

Annoying, yes...

If anyone has had a similar problem, please share

Yep, pretty heavily H@X0R3D..

I'm actully thinking now its because I'm running SX2 on XP Service Pack 2. I've recently heard that cubase doesnt like that?

Going to roll it back tonight and see if thatmakes any difference.

Thanks for you help =)

the problem shouldn't be with SP2. i'm currently running SP2 on both of my studio computers and i haven't had any issue like that ever. sounds like a problem with the white rock.

Well I rolled it back to SP1 and re-installed the card and it seems to work alright.

I did suffer from one more lockup though. It seemed to work fine and then... bam... cpu usage went through the roof all of a sudden. I had to open the project and then slowly remove vsts until it got back under control.

Was wierd because it wasnt a slow degradation in performance like you usually get.

Anyway, seems to run alright if a bit temperamental...
