Belt or direct drive difference...

How can I tell that a table is belt or direct drive? I am looking to purchase tables and the seller doesn't know how old his tables are so I just wanna be able to make sure they are direct drive. The tables are Technics, so I dunno if they have ever even made belt drive tables. Thanks.

they have made belt drive tables. look for a model name/number and post it for and answer (or better yet plug your model name into google and try to find out, works for me sometimes)

He said he thinks they are MK2's.

"the silver ones with before the pitch reset button was invented."

That is what he told me.

the model number should be right on the front of the decks. this guy sounds a little shady. i would just walk away.

why would he have a pair of technics and not know if they are belt/direct?

sounds more like he wants to send these to you so you can find out they are belt after the exchange of money.

Well, I will be meeting with this guy in person. I am just new to the scene and trying to get as much info together as possible so I know what to look at and for when I take a look at these decks.

They def sound like 1200 MK2's. If they are in good condition, and you can get them for a good price, why not?

Yup, thats the MK2. What he meant there is that the MK2 Turntable clicks into place at 0 pitch which became a bit bothersome for some DJs. The newer MK5 model has a button you can press which resets the pitch to 0 so you can make more precise adjustments around the 0 pitch range.

Is it something I should worry about? Will it prove to be a big deal for me when I am trying to mix? I am new to this all so maybe I shouldnt be too worried about it for now.

i personally use mk5's without the 0 click... i hate that stupid click. it isn't a huge deal, just makes some mixes awkward. you can always replace the faders. i wouldn't let the 0 click stop you from buying mk2s.

If you are getting a good deal and just starting out, the Technics MkII's are perfect for you. They are Professional tables and several clubs will probably still have them in their backrooms.

As far as figuring out what table it is, that's simple. Tell your seller to open his eyes and look at the bottom right of the table. It has the name 1200 and a make MK something next to it. IT is very visible

^ Notice the text on your bottom right... that has the model name on it
