the lead/melody is very bright, i'd put some more fx on it so you can atleast match the bassline somewhat
the melody totally drowns out the entire track, maybe add something more to the percs.
overall, not really my style but there isn't a whole lot going on |
Thanks for the comments
- When I played this at Club Heaven the kick was too strong, so I probably overadjusted, it sounds fine when I play it through my mixer, though. I'll probably go back and compress the kick a bit more and add a bit more of the higher end of the frequencies for the kick to distinguish it from the bassline more easily.
- The same melody is going on an octave lower, though the sound levels are very suppressed compared to the highs. What I'll probably do is even out the volume levels because the lower octave melody is more similar to the pre-lead (the part that goes on for the first 30 seconds/minute or so).

Thanks!
I tried playing around with the lead. It just doesn't sound right an octave lower and makes the sound even more muffled. What I'll probably do is have a mid-high saw pad following the same progression as the current lead but be made up of a series of shorter notes to give the impression that more is going on. I tried that so far by copying the channel with the lead, dropping it down an octave and gating it and it doesn't sound too bad =): maybe a tiny bit muffled still. I've also increased the kick volume by about 10% and dropped the main lead by about 10%. I'll post an updated version soon.

hey,
I only party agree about your kick, it really doesnt need to be boosted that much at all. Maybe just some definition, not volume is all it needs.
Love the dark feel, and it could work really well with your supersaw lead (at 0:31), but like i think was said, it comes in to suddenly too loud, it overshadows the tune.
Really like your bass, and the mood of the tune is really cool.
keep at it, this could be a cracker

Thanks! What I've done now is the following (should have this posted up tonight or tomorrow)
- kick up 5% & the release is significantly shortened making it a lot more 'punchy' (done)
- I'm taking the lead volume down about 10% (done)
- I'm going to make the acid rhythm less glassy sounding and a bit more harsh/distorted (a nice 303 sound in there) and move it to a frequency range not occupied by the bassline or the string pad that you heard at the beginning.
- i'm adding some warm counterpoint to the beginning 'prelead' melody, to fill in some of the highs occupied by the lead later (B6 to C#6) and adding another melody sequence in the mid range (B5 to C5) at around the 30 second mark to make the song not sound quite as hollow.
