Writing on Your Records/Sleeves

So I am starting to get into harmonics officially and really digging it. My main problem is that to know what tunes are in what key and camelot category I would have to write on the record or sleeve.

Maybe its the collector in me, but I am really hesitant about doing this. My mom has old albums that she gave me with her name written on them and I eek every time I look at them. My brother put smurf ink stamps on some of my baseball cards as a kid, just kills me.

How do you guys feel about writing on your records or the sleeves?

Is there any alternative?

I tried little round labels from Staples that claim to be able to peel off. They do, although too easily. They end up falling off on me.

suck it up and write on them
they're your records, they're your tools, use them as you need to

i always mark my white labels

no time for fumbling around trying to find a record or mix in the middle of a packed club while i'm half-cut

Write on the inside of the sleeve.

Consider this, 92% of the worlds population feel that their lives could be better, what about you? If you could do anything, anything at all... what would you do? What are you doing now? Imagine that you could live your life knowing it could not be better and never feeling that you would rather be doing something else, be somewhere else, or be someone else. Now consider this, some people actually live that way and so could you. Contemplate this, what if 90% of the problems you encountered in your life were mere illusion and only existed in your mind? In your everyday life whenever something annoys you, stresses you, makes you mad or makes you sad, consider if that something really matters. Will you even remember how you felt in 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year, or what about in 10 years? So when the people you work for pressure you and fail to understand you does it really matter? And when they call you on the phone screaming and yelling does it matter? And should you really allow that to influence your life? It's all about choices.

+1. i always write on my write labels with little notes on the sleeves or on the label itself about the tracks. its really helpful if there are some random/bad mixes and 1 good one that i play. saves valuable time.

also, some of my vinyl has writing all over it, because theyre from the radio station that i spin at, and there is station info all over it so people dont steal them. but now that theyre unwanted, we take them and they have random comments on all of them (although i have to admit that the comments do help)

razzi.

if you're worried about depreciating value or whatever, just slap on a post-it note, or some masking tape.

I haven't wrote on any of mine yet... and most of my white labels the sleeve has a printed label... so don't need to mark them

Masking tape definately works. Or put in dividers in your case.

just organize your vinyl in diffrent shelves for diffrent harmonic notes, and in your flight cases, just seperate them with cardboard with ends on them like you would see at a record store how they catagorize thier gendre.

Little stickers have always worked for me - haven't had a problem with them falling off....

i use the little orasge removable stickers to mark my vinyls so i dont have to read which mix i want to play.

i took the suggestion and used masking tape in the top right corner of each sleeve and wrote traditional/camelot/bpm info on each.

i couldnt write on the top right corner without the masking tape for each record so i am liking this much better.

thanks for the info.

I usually just write on the record sleeve if I wanna write BPM/key/whatever... im not planning to sell my records anyway, so I don't care much about value.

I write on my records, you know where the information is and saves you having to faff about with it.

These days though I tend to remember the key of a record anyway.

Cheers
