i think the most common answer you'll get is sheet one. most likely because of the excellence of the magnificent acid line interplay with hawtin's signature minimal techno sounds, or some such numbskullery. it's the album that launched his fame, and all that. musik is probably just as good with a similar sound, but sheet one...that's the one.

Musik is my favorite because it contains the elements from Sheet One, only more mature IMO. I don't I've listened to any album more then Musik, so it's pretty safe to say that it's my all time favorite album.

Sheet one is a brilliant peice of music, still sounding as fresh today as when it was released.

I've not heard much of his other albums, i found closer and consumed a bit too deep. Musik and Artifakts are definately albums i'd buy if I could find them at reasonable prices.

All his albums are going for £7.99 on Amazon.co.uk, hence my interest.

I'm still torn between Sheet One and Musik.

Your collection won't be complete oterhwise anyways (for the above mentioned reasons). Hawtin is in a league of his own me thinks

I'll get Musik then, and if it's up to scratch I'll get Sheet One too.

i don't think you'll like either. didn't you say you hate simple music or something along those lines?

No... unless you mean my attack on house on the Ishboard, which shouldn't have been taken too literally.

I've always loved anything wih a 303 in, and I don't own enough classic techno. At worst I've lost eight quid.

no i'm pretty sure your main argument against not liking a lot of music is that they are simple, and therefore beneath your notice. like daft punk or classic trance. i almost specifically remember you saying you don't like either because they have no musical merit due to their extreme simplicity. i'll tell you this, the music on any plastikman album is going to be more simplistic than any house or trance record you can find.

really whether they have a 303 is not the point. or perhaps it is the pivotal piece of information. you see, if you follow my logic here...you don't like chunks of music because they are simple. you think they have no merit because they are simple. you have said this. richie hawtin makes minimal techno, probably one of the simplest forms of edm out there. which means that you either won't like the album or dislike those aforementioned chunks for a reason other than you state. probably personal. a lot of house has acid. do you like acid house? most of classic trance is acid. you don't like any of that. so what's the real reason you don't like those kinds of music?

i assure you my concern is that you not buy something you will surely dislike. as for the rest, i'm a very curious fellow.

Selections 1999-2000 is also a strong choice, bear with me though, not produced like any of the other, just a bunch of his tracks put on one CD. it contains brilliant pieces like 'Spastik', 'Minus Orange', 'Are Friends Electrik?' and 'Loop'.

or... you could also get DE9: Closer to the Edit.

why? well, nto exactly an album, but one hell of a masterpiece anyway.
