recording question

im a bit of a newb to recording... currently i have a soundblaster live 5.1 (running kx audio drivers for lower latency) for playback on a 4.1 speaker set. it has a front plug for the front two speakers, and a rear plug for the rear two speakers

i've been thinking about going for an audiophile 2496 to record (for instance a synth)... however, having the two plugs for the speaker system, i dont think this will be possible to hook up to the 2496

the question

would i be ok recording through the 2496 and playing back through the sb live (even though they're at different latencies) or would it be better to stick to one card in my computer

or... should i just get a different recording solution that will work with my speaker setup?

thanks in advance

I didn't quite understand your speaker issue, but I'm sure you'll be OK w/ the 2496.

Doesnt sound like it is compatible. What kind of plug does the speakers have. Are they 1/4" jacks, rca plugs or something else.

Using the M-Audio to record and the sound blaster to play back will be a pain in the ass because you will not be able to use both cards at once and you will have disconnect speakers and reconnect to hear what you are recording.

Sounds to me like what you reall need is a decent set of monitors as well as a sound card. I take it you are currently using a set of surround sound computer speakers which probably don't have the flattest response.
