Hi Ax...

something about that kick. Dunno.. not quite....maybe it's just lonely...hmmm.

I know. It needs a better reverb. Maybe that's it. Slow start...almost proggy I guess. That cymbal/hihat sound gets to be much after several minutes...thankfully it stops at the break.

I just don't find it "melodic" as you stated. It lacks a hook of any kind and therefore doesn't really seem melodic. There is a melody halfway through but it fails to really capture the emotion that a "hook" should be able to do. Maybe you should add another motif and synth on top of that.

Good luck!

Hey man,
Listening .... I notice that the overall sound is too flat bro, sounds too plane, I would try to make ti sound a bit more crispy , bass line is fine .
The build up is a bit conventional, monotone, I agree about the progressive comment .
A big point is that all sounds very clean!
I like the melodie you got in the breakdown, sounds cluby.
In overall, u have very good ideas, I just would work more the overall, making it more interesting, it's too flat imo, and I would do the build up also more animated and dynamic, other than that u have a very sweet track here , keep the good wori mate .
Kopi =o.

Sorry, its a bit quiet in places, as its not yet mastered.

Since you haven't mastered, I won't comment in the technical part.

When I downloaded your track, I was expecting a melodic work, I can say it has melodic elements, but just elements, this tends to be more psy-tech trance than melodic, which is good for my taste.

Try to add harmony with more percussion elements, use a phaser in your hats to make them sound more crispy (or atleast that is what I do) , but watch out with the rate and the depth, you want both parts of the phaser act subtle in your hats.

Now, as a listener , didn't excite me, is a cool track, but is not a track that would be in my mind for days to come, easily forgettable.

Sry...

Looking forward to hear the mastered version to comment in depth.

Hey mate, cool track you've got here. It's not my usual style but I liked all the melodic elements and the flow is great.

Overall it sounds a little dry, maybe add a touch of reverb on some elements, or some kind of ambient effects to really help fill out the sound.

I also reckon the bassline is too soft compared with the kick. The kick is nice and loud but the bass needs to match it for loudness or else you lose energy when the kick is not playing. A sub-bass would help a lot too.

Overall a very cool track! Great work for your second track, keep it up!

First of all, I agree with the kick, it seems to lack a bit punch. I know it's psy that doesnt have such a big kick but a bit more bottom (100-200Hz) should do it. And make the bassline a bit heavier so that it works together with the kick, not underneath it. In the beginning, this stands out but later on it works better.
Another thing is that I dont find your hihat sounds very crispy. You should try layering them with each other so that they fuller, or use better samples. One of them sounds just like a long noise, I know that can be improved.
Cool introduction of the melodies, though I think the buildup is a slight bit too long for Psy. But it's not typical Psy anyway, it sounds a bit too conventional to really become psy (dont take this as a critique, the tune is great... just for categorizing..). So I'll shut my mouth and carry on

Very nice, original and bouncy rythm at 5:00, where the track reached a great climax. Really, really loving it. It might be that the track is a bit silent (yeah, I read that its not yet mastered). But one thing you should do when finalizing your track: Add more lower mids. They will fill your track so that the feeling of 'emptiness' some people mentioned is gone.

Anyway, I'm just impressed with the track, it's by far better than your last one. The main theme is awesome and I'm listening to the tune for 10 times now, I cant get enough of the cool layering and melodies. Keep it up!

This track is really quiet. I had to turn it right up to get emersed in zee sound.

The starting Hihats need to be revised. They are full though it feels more like a noisy hisss hisss hisss. maybe shorten it to just a 'his'.

4.00 Nice layering. Ther layout of this track is excellent. I enjoy the ideas behind it; this track has heaps of potential.

4.40 turn up that bass! make it fatter!

The leads are awesome. I recommend you dublicate the lead synths & then turn the dublicate down an octive. Im thinking that the extra layer will fill the up the sound & give it more energy.

Give us a PM as I look forward to hearing the finish mastered product.

Xeno.

Thanks for the great feedback everyone!!

Mastering should fix some of the issues mentioned, but thanks to everyone for their tips

Digital Aura: Shit, I didnt want it to sound proggy , LoL... Yeah, to be honest I'm not sure what genre it is. My best guess is a blend between Astral Projection and Darren Tate .... meh, I dont think its very psytek though, not really minimal enough I think.

kopi: Good ideas, planning to add some more automation and fx I think, should make things a bit more interesting hopefully =) Also, I'll try playing with the structure to build more tension.

PDM: Good tip with the phaser dude, thanks for sharing. Going to try that right now with some new hihat samples!

pho mo: Thanks man. My last effort was a bit muddy, so I wanted to try and thin things out a bit with this one. Atleast theres room for some fx now without it getting too cluttered =)

cybernetica: Great reviewing man!! Totally humbled that you've put it on repeat I intentionally tried to stay away from psy track structure in favour of a more melodic build up. Just like to be different I guess

Xeno: Yeah, those hats are crap, time to find some new samples I think... Leads are already doubled.. lol... might give a third layer a shot

Thanks again for taking the time to comment guys. All your tips have been really helpful. I definately feel a bit more back on track with this one. Will post up when its in a more polished state

Just listened to Airburst. It's a nice auld track alright. Everyone's already commented on the volume so I won't again. Apart from that last sentence! I really like the way the song progresses. There's a natural flow to it. And I just LOVE that kick that's offbeat. That's a decent hook. I agree with whoever said it was a small bit empty. The octaved or detuned synth should take care of that alright.

Keep up the good work.

Dec

PS I've just spent ten frusrating minutes waiting for my latest unfinished to be posted but to no avail. Any ideas? Maybe I'll try a third party hosting site. Any recommendations?

Man, that is the best description of a good trance set I ever heard...

Everyone else has spoken the truth about your kick; it needs punch. Pump a bit more energy into the lower range.

Nice sounds at around 1:30

Your hats at 1:49 could be a bit louder. As is, they're very quiet.

I also agree that this track is a bit quiet, especially in the break down.

Yeah, I gotta go with everyone else. This lead is rather dry. Maybe put some panned delay on it.

It wasn't very interesting, overall. It wasn't repetitive or anything, it just didn't have much energy, although I suppose the low volume may have had something to do with that. It was fairly well-made, otherwise. I just didn't like it too much.

Thanks for the replies guys, really appreciate the feedback and totally agree with everything thats been said. I've spent most of the weekend pumping up the leads and trimming the filler. Its sounding pretty driving now, but I'll let you guys be the judge

Check back in a day or so for an update.
