 Actually, thats what should happen when you compress the bass like that and do too much hard limiting. You'll hear the music get squashy , and on the off beats (and where the bassline stops) the music will all of a sudden get jacked up to fill in the void.
So, as he says, the bass needs to come down a whole lot! The way to make a bass louder and punchier is through clever EQing, not by compressing and limiting the heck out of it. 
The melody is great TvB! I think just fixing that overwhelming bassline will really help, cuz the other synths sound pretty good!
