oh my god

my f'n mother..i swear.

ok she just found out that my uncle's wife is an athiest and she's freaking out because my little cousin (he's like 3) isn't going to have "God" in his life and she just went on and on about how it's "WRONG" and "he needs to be brought up with some sort of belief system BLA BLA BLA BLA" which, i'm not saying i disagree with, but it's NOT HER KID, it's her nephew, and it's my UNCLE'S job to try to work something out with HIS WIFE and HIS SON...

i mean am i right or am i right?

god, she fucking thinks everyone in the world has to see things her way or they're wrong.

+ fucking one.

Forcing a belief system on a three year old is straight brainwashing...should be against the law IMO...

I'm not being funny, but is this a common occurance in America? I mean whenever I see interviews on TV after a major disaster, like the twin towers being hit for example, they will always say something along the lines of "now is a time to pray for the victims / god is with us, etc."

You have every right (supposedly) in the USA (i'm American't, we don't believe in other countries) to believe in what you believe in unless your rights are infringed. Everyone can do what they want.

I think a lot more people go to church in america than in this country

I dont think that is true at all. I was brought up going to church every sunday, but im not really a believer now. Its good to know both sides of the story and be able to make your own mind up. I would take my kids to church for the exact same reason, but if they didnt want to go i wouldnt mind.

it's not surprising for her to worry because it is normal to fear the unknown. but i have to say i disagree with the issue. i grew up without god in my life and i turned out just fine.

i come from a pretty strict irish catholic family (my mom's side..no shit?!), but i wouldn't call myself a devout catholic at all. i'd like to believe there's a higher power and that something pleasant happens to our souls when we die. i'm extremely interested in evolution too, but i mean there's no telling whether or not evolution is the works of "God"...but whatever that's besides the point.

my mother was raised catholic and she's very intelligent to say the least, but when she pulls shit like this, i get disappointed in her. talk about narrow-minded..jeez. she really gets annoyed when i don't agree with her or when ANYONE doesn't agree with her.. she needs to lighten up.

i am really amazed that she isn't looking at this situation objectively and recognizing the boundaries that she should not be overstepping.

i mean yea, she can express her views to my uncle because it's her brother, but from her tone she is like on a mission to MAKE him talk to his wife...

great, this is going to be a fun weekend! (i'm driving up to tampa with her to visit this uncle and his family).

lol

i'm bringing an oz of weed and a bottle of stoli vanilla. hahahah

Yea but it appears to me that religion is rammed down their throats so whether they have the right or not, most usually end up feeling quite strongly about it anyway. I have met quite a few Americans over the last few years and a few of them seemed a bit shocked about the lack of seriousness with regards to religion we have. Other than weddings and christenings I have never stepped foot in a church in my life.

let me clarify...i am not saying that my mother is wrong for having that opinion...she is entitled to it, just as you are entitled to your beliefs (and expect them to be respected, right?)....

i'm saying it's wrong of her to but in and make it her business.
