it wasnt the leama and moor remix that was in the film. it was the original Brian Eno track.

none of the tracks you mentioned are trance since it wasn't the Leama & Moor remix in 28 days later but the soothing ambient original of Brian Eno - An Ending.
The same with The Platoon. It's the original Barbers Adagio For Strings. Not a trance remake of any kind.

Very clever starting up a thread when the original poster doesn't have his own facts straight.

Requiem For a Dream- Main Theme
Later remixed by Oakenfold for the track Aeternal.

I don't believe trance can really be used effectively in a movie.

Scores are usually used to amplify emotion, grabbing you at first gently and then bringing the emotion up. When I think of a turly great score I think of Hans Zimmer's theme from Pearl Harbor. The gradual increase of the thunderous bass drums, at relatively low bpm mind you, and the build-up of the strings, unbelieveable. While no other genre really attempts to mimmick these build-ups as trance does, what separates say a Hans Zimmer piece from a Tiesto piece, no flamming just an ex., is the live string elements bring the sound down to earth. I believe the live strings are less alienating than synths. While there maybe some scene where a synth may be best, take the cult scene in Eye Wide Shut, you will find that synths and electronic elements are best used not when we want to cry or feel compasion for a character, but when we want to our emotions to be tied to the alienation of the scene. Afterall, technology is alienating. Their are many songs in trance that if made more "organic" would easy make compelling scores. Take for example, Alex Stealthy- As a Child. This trance/prog song could easily be put in for a climax scene. However, unless you are going to make the Matrix IV it most likely would be inappropriate. If you take only the excellent string parts from this song, you wind up with a song now that is no longer alienating to audience members, and can be used in any movie with a powerful climax. Or, Max Graham- Gone. Take away all electronic elements and leave just the pianos, strings, and voice in the breakdown. You are left with a song that would be the perfect, tear-jerking end to a movie about a lost love. I have written entirely too much, but my basic point is: the electronic elements of trance are in the end alienating to a viewer, but if these electronic parts were replaced with live strings, you would have a number of excellent scores.
