no seriously, bartenders make like $2/hr and tips is how we make a living. |
If you only make $2/hr you're severely underpaid. The median and means salaries of bartenders in 2004 were $7.42 and $8.29, respectively.

$1 per drink at the bar is standard so if I order one drink I tip $1, if I order two drinks I tip $2. I hardly ever take paper towls in the bathroom but If the bathroom attendent is cool ill tip him $5 sometime durring the night and jack all his chewing gum. |
Ah, so the gum is free. I thought they were selling the stuff. Good thing I started this thread.

$1-$2/drink if theyre cool but if theyre an asshole in anyway i give em nothing. if theres one thing i cant stand its giving a guy $1 to open a twist top who's got an attitude to boot
its funny how in europe the bartenders are usually chill and you dont tip them anything at all. here they make $200+ a night and theyre gonna be pissed off???
its not that im cheap but when ur in the service industry you have to be courteous, i was a waiter at college for 4 years so if anything im a good tipper at restaurants for good service. But dont be obnoxious when im ordering an $8 bud light... |
I liked reading this, as it means that I can punish assholes without necessarily being a cheap European (I believe you should adapt to the customs of the places you stay).
Oh yeah, I myself stick to the $1 per drink rule, and $1 to the bathroom guys - unless they're being pricks. Outside the club I'm pretty generous, generally tipping 25% and more in cabs, restaurants and at the hair dressers. But these people also tend to be much more nice to me than nightclub staff. Actually, only bouncers and DJs have yet to piss me off in a club, and these are the only ones that you're not supposed to tip. Strange.
