Sonar 4 clipping

Sonar 4 clips like hell, i only have a SB card with kx drivers, but in any other programs (Eg Cubase or anyother audioapp) i do not get cracks and pops in the audio, it does it with both synths and samples
I treid increasing the buffer to 250+ms and still no luck, i can get it down to 11ms in other programs with no problems!!!

Anyone know anything

thanks

well

It just shows sonar uses more cpu try going thru your task manager find programs that are using cpu and just stop them as long as they arent important ones sometimes that helps.

there are HUGE problems related to creative cards & cakewalk. i had to switch when i first started using sonar 3.xx . I'm with an Echo MIA MIDI now and it was well worth the switch. Check out the sonar forums for countless threads on this subject

Hey. What OS are you running? Also, what happens when you turn down the synths. The default is at 0db and sometimes I have to turn it way down to -6db. I've never used the KX drivers and I'm assuming you are using Windows 98 and that may be the problem but I'm not sure. More info needed though .

Cheers,
Zac

Thanks for the help, maybe i should get a better soundcard

its happens with everything, if import a capella or anything it crackles and pops... when i set the latency down even more it goes worse, but i still have it on its highest setting and its still pretty bad
Ive just treid the db thing and there still there, there is no difference in the crackle with either a synth or audio. im using XP, maybe i should try different drivers and see what happens...

thanks again!

Hey. What you are experiencing is latency problems rather than clipping . I've never used the KX drivers like I said so I havent had any expirience with them and Sonar but I do know that my SB Live! card works perfectly fine at a good latenmcy of 11ms in Sonar 4 with the creative drivers.

-Something else to watch for is the fragmentation of your drive. If you have several partitions, and Sonar happens to be on a different one than Cubase, I would definately defrag because more than likely, that is your problem . Just to be safe though, go ahead and defrag because that will always cause latency errors when your harddrive is heavily fragmented. Your drive is forced to constantly search the platters for stuff it needs, adding a lot of milliseconds, sometimes up to 50ms between fragments on the heaviest fragmented drives.

-Your page file may also be fucking with your latency. Pagefile works like ram but instead of using the modules, it puts it on your hard drive using space called virtual memory. Again, fragmentation can mess up the latency. Unfortunately, to defrag your page file, youll need a 3rd party app such as Diskeeper.

-Some people, such as myself, choose to get a lot of highspeed, high capacity ram modules and jsut turn of pagefiling which dramaticly enhances performance (just dont run out of ram or bad things may happen ).

-A low amount of ram can also cause latency issues as well as shitty cheap modules (not so likely if they are less than a year or 2 old).

Just some things to check on before dumping on your card cause I havent had any troubles.

Cheers,
Zac
