The Recent attack's on London

There are now seven explosions comfermed in london today so far, let us hope it stays like that.

As many people are asking/thinking/speculating about who did these attacks?

l thourght that l would set up a poll with some of my thourghts as to possibly why, please feel free to voice any ideas you may have and to what should be done next to resolve this issue and also the more pressing question where do we go from here...

And may our thourghts go out to the people hurt in these recent attacks and especially to the people who will not be comming home tonight!

I hope theres no more attacks. I think some people are a bit disgruntled over losing the Olympic bids.

But then again someone had probably planned this attack for a while...and the Olympic shit is just a coincidence.

This shit pisses me off

^^nice sig

but anyway, its the g8 thing as far as im concerned. the way the attacks happened have been done to cause disruption, to dtract from the goings on in gleneagles. i dont think this is revenge for iraq, and i don tthink this was 'london's time' because they could have caused a far greater loss of life, and we all know what al-Q did on nyc.

the olympic bid is a coincidence, maybe the attack was planned to coincide with it if london got the olympics, but i think this is unlikely and would have gone on regardless due to the g8

could be anarchist groups, could be al-Q. could be anyone. no point trying to rest blame. i think its also possible that any one of these groups could falsely claim responsibility

Well I think the G8 summit is why it happened at this time, obviously whoever did this (likely an Islamist group) did it most likely for the same reasons Madrid was bombed (Iraq etc)

If its al-qaeda, they attack in patterns. They use alot more smaller attacks, then every while they have a larger scale attack.

Looks like we are still waiting for the next big one.

Dont confuse "links with al-Qaida" with al-Qaida!

Al-Qaida is an ideology and I would imagine whoever did this is an independent cell who may have had contact with al-Qaida at some point, but the nature of al-Qaida after Afghanistan means I would be inclined to say al-Qaida (ie bin Laden's group) would not have planned this or carried it out

from a different perspective: opposition to the compulsory biometric ID cards may well decrease. was this the intended effect?

Well I'm not too sure about that. I think it is a certainty that the government will use today as justification for introducing ID cards but they need to think carefully before saying such. I dont think anyone thinks that ID cards would have made any difference to todays attack and it will be obvious to everyone that they are using today for their own benefit which could backfire on them

One other thing I thought about and that has since been mentioned on the news is that the number of people killed is not typical of an al-Qaida style attack. The bombs were obviously nowhere near as powerful as the ones in bali, Madrid, etc especially when you consider there were 7 of them

How do you UK people think this will affect the EU resistance in the UK? It could be a reminder that the UK is part of a much bigger world, and hence be a cause for re-evaluation of the isolationistic scepcism?

I doubt that would be a result of this event. Unless somehow the public believed we would be less at risk with tighter cooperation with Europe (not as opposed to siding with America but as in if the EU could offer us more protection from this kind of situation, ie, Europol etc)

Islamic group claims London attack

CAIRO, Egypt - A group calling itself “The Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe” posted a claim of responsibility for Thursday’s blasts in London, saying they were in retaliation for Britain’s involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The authenticity of the message could not be immediately confirmed.

The statement, which also threatened attacks in Italy and Denmark, was published on a Web site popular with Islamic militants, according to Elaph, a secular Arabic-language news Web site, and Der Spiegel magazine in Berlin, which published the text on their Web sites.

“Rejoice, Islamic nation. Rejoice, Arab world. The time has come for vengeance against the Zionist crusader government of Britain in response to the massacres Britain committed in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said the statement, translated by The Associated Press in Cairo. The AP was unable to access the Web site where it was posted, which was closed quickly after the reports.

But MSNBC TV translator Jacob Keryakes, who said that a copy of the message was later posted on a secular Web site, noted that the claim of responsibility contained an error in one of the Quranic verses it cited. That suggests that the claim may be phony, he said.

"This is not something al-Qaida would do," he said.

The group al-Qaida in Europe claimed responsibility for the last major terror attack in Europe: a string of bombs that hit commuter trains in Madrid, Spain in March 2004, killing 191 people. Two days after that attack, a video was found in a trash can outside a Madrid mosque with a statement purported to be from the group’s spokesman, called by the nickname “Abu Dujan al Afghani.”

In the new statement, the group said “the heroic mujahedeen carried out a blessed attack in London, and now Britain is burning with fear and terror, from north to south, east to west.”

“We warned the British government and the British people repeatedly. We have carried out our promise and carried out a military attack in Britain after great efforts by the heroic mujahedeen over a long period to ensure its success.”

“We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all crusader governments that they will receive the same punishment if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan,” the statement went on.

It was signed “The Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

This is just another sign that we need to combat terrorism. From past attacks, like the ones that occurred on Spain, it is clearly that these terrorist are not only declaring war to U.S but to our allies that are struggling to combat terrorism. I called for all nations not to withdraw their troops (Italy, Denmark etc.) because if we have nations negotiating with these kinds of thugs and murderers that’s a clear win for them, we cannot negotiate nor trust this type of people. It is sad that they are trying to spread fear around the world, we as citizens have the right to live a life with out fear. The best thing to do is to back out countries up in the effort to control or end terrorism. Innocent people don’t deserve to be targets for these people, nor should we be tools for them so they can use us to try to deliver their message across. My grievances to the London people, and I encourage them to stay strong, and lets hope that their government captures thus who planned the attack, since many experts say that they doubt it was a suicide bomber. They should trust on their leaders and their system. Lets all pray that this type of attack doesn’t happen again anywhere in the world.
