Hey guys, i need some advice as to what gear i should get to go wireless at home.

I have a 1.5 Mbit ADSL Connection at home.

Modem currently plugged into the desktop comp.

I have a laptop that i want to use around the house.

Do i need a wireless router? Wireless card?

What equipment do i need to do this?

Any recomendations?

yeah what he said, i think the min speed these days is 54mbit which is what i run at home.. be sure to set up your network with a wep key to keep ****s out from using your internet connection..

..much like what soups the tightass used to do

*edit* btw i use dlink products and although lots of people frown upon them i swear by mine. is always up and stable which is good, you can get packages these days with the adsl.modem/wireless router & pci/pcimcia(?) network cards..

stick with brands such as Linksys(Cisco) or Netgear bit more expensive but its alot more reliable and durable.
When you get your wireless card (unless its a centrino you dont need one) you might want to match the same brand with your router.. makes life alot more easier/simpler and brands such as netgear support super G which (108mbs speeds) only works with identical netgear router and wireless card.
If there different brands it will take you a little longer but it should be ok.

802.11g is the fastest and common one but I use to run on 802.11b(11mbs) and that was fast enough for my laptop. I could do live streaming of radio shows on the net to my living room speakers. But if you transfer like crazy or do some online gaming 'g' might be better suited to you, and I think shops only have 'g' anways.

Now days alot of ppl were trying to jump into other networks so use WEP key. Instructions are provided with your router and its pretty easy now days to set up.

Hey guys, I've been trying to get back into gaming again...

What kinda specs would I need to be able to run Cs Source decently... When I mean decently, I mean FLAWLESS.. no frame lag, no hdd lag etc etc

Throw me a pakage deal or a pricelist so I know where to go

Stay away from dlink.
Since you've already got a modem, you can just get a stand alone router to plug into the modem... or you can get an adsl modem/router combo - modem and router in one, which are probably more common, and for that definitely get a billion!

Well its all about your video card.. AMD64 are the best value for money
3200 should do fine!
but i state it again video card.. the past fortnight the new babies are comming out so its a good time to wait and let the older top model ones to come down.

The new video cards are now PCI express which means new mother board new socket etc. etc.
if you wanna go even more intense and a rich mofo you can get two of the same video cards and combine them (SLI).

Ok back to reality hehe CS source.. do you want Detail? or more FPS?
The more you pay the better detail, quality you pay for.

(Ati radeon X750 or higher, Nvidia 6600GT or higher) Middle range video card = approx. 300-500 (this should play cs nicely)

(Ati radeon X800) High end = approx 600-1200 (x2 if you want two of them )

Im a ATi fan, I had NVidea before but ATi i found much better. But thats like anything Ford vs Holden, p4 vs amd etc.
