college folk.........

does anyone think its a little unorthodox for a teacher to continue lecture after an exam? I've never seen this before, and frankly, i dont like it. It makes sense why most professors dont do it.

Its a 4 hour class, so grant it, you have time to finish the exam, but its very discomforting knowing you have about two hours of lecturing remaining, let alone a SET time limit for the exam, as opposed to the entire class period.

Ironically the course is Psychology.

Welcome to Higher Education

This is typical, and if you are in a summer class... it is even more typical due to time constraints and a shorter time frame (weeks) to complete school

Sometimes it just depends on the department and the university. It's never happened in Linguistics at UVic that I can remember.

It's kinda dumb to do that, though.

well, no need to welcome me, ive been in higher education for several many years, and have definitely seen my share of material dropping/lecture compression.

Most professors ive seen have been able to properly handle the notorious ugly summer semester scheduling, without having much effect on the students. The professors dislike it just as much.

However, this one seems to have a bit of an issue. Perhaps its because this professor does a fantastic job of babbling about god knows what for extended periods of time.

If you need to have exam + lecture periods, perhaps you should reconsider your lecture approach and overall tactics. As much as I AND professors consider the summer scheduling retarded, its still sufficient to cover 90% of a courses syllabus. Which is probably why the scheduling hasnt changed, but it makes having a good professor that much more important.

eh, when you're paying for it, you tend to be picky about a professors methods. Ofcourse, its usually nothing severe enough to where dropping is necessary, atleast not for me, but I see it happen all the time.

You get good teachers, you get bad teachers, its the way of the game, consider this a vent thread if anything.

1. bullshit to the above quote.
2. thats what u get for trying to "save time" with a 4hr weekly class.
3. if that course is a 2000 or less, u are being academically raped.

I remember having difficulties with lab Teaching Assistant's, not so much with prof's though.

The good thing is, it prepares you for a multitude of different work styles when you join the workforce. Such a broad range of different people out there and how they do things - sometimes you'll find that you have to adapt to them in order to get stuff done, even if it seems totally backwards.
