..cos I thought, how about making my own vst/vsti (whichever is easier) and maybe create new sounds, you know, instead of playing with'em, playing with making'em. But I don't know where to start.
Is there a website around with info for?
I can make a gui and the audio stuff, but I have no idea on the standards and stuff to make vsts/vstis
thanks

a lot of people are getting into synthedit. haven't used it myself, but some of the plugins made with it are pretty cool.

Trust me, you're wasting your time trying to write a VSTi. The standard itself is ridiculous, and even if you could come up with something that's compatible across all hosts, there are already SO many instruments out there, you'd just be duplicating somebody else's work.
If you're really interested in designing your own synths, I'd suggest getting yourself a demo of Reaktor. It's one of the few packages I think NI actually did a good job on, and toys like Synthedit aren't even in the same league. It's stable, fairly light on memory and CPU, and you won't have to worry about compatibility issues.

Agreed, the best thing I've seen come from synthedit is the Superwave bundle. Take what you will from that.

Yeh, I a software developer and I know writing ur own vst plug-in is a waste of time, its complex cause it contains so much mathematics involved, really I am not joking. A normal user that pushes a key on a pro-53 has no idea in the world of the complexity involved creating that sharp synth sound.
It takes years of experience in the audio programming field and years of programming field preferably in C++ using W32 trust me! I f really want to go ahead its Ur choice it will definitely boost ur skills when programming syths and uses effects and stuff but hey why do it that way.
