Angry need computer help..please

ok, im having trouble with a certain computer,

its brand new and it came with software already installed, but for some reason the computer thinks that its on a network, so each time i try connecting to the internet it does not want to and tells me that i should check the network.

is there a way i can delete the network settings and reinstall them so that the computer connects directly to the internet and not through a network? i've tried renewing my IP address but that doesnt seem to work at all.

any help would be appreciated.

If its on winXP, go to Start -> Settings -> Network Connections. There you'll see all active network connections. You can delete whatever you want. CHeck under your device manager that your lan card is installed properly, although if it is a semi-new machine, it should probably have an integrated card...

BTW, did you just plug it into your network, and then try to double click on the IE icon or something? Cuz that prolly won't work.

1. Click the Start menu button on the Windows taskbar.
2. Click Run... on this menu.
3. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'cmd' (without the quotes) in the text box that appears. A command prompt window appears on the screen.
4. Type 'ipconfig' (without the quotes) to view the status of the computer's IP address(es).
5. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'ipconfig /release' to let go of the address.
6. Type 'ipconfig /renew' to obtain a new IP address (whether or not the computer is holding a current address).

Tips:

1. If it is not necessary to view the current IP addresses on a computer, simply type 'ipconfig /release' or 'ipconfig /renew' (without the quotes) in the text box that appears in Step 3.
2. To bring a computer back onto the network after moving it to a different location, or experiencing an unexpected outage, first release, then renew the IP address. Computers on DHCP networks often (but not always) re-establish network connectivity automatically.

umm, pretty much thats what i did, but i played with alot of network settings.

the only network that is shown has a ! next to it, i tried to see if there was any hardware that was not installed properly but thats not the case. well its a new machine and it probably has an integrated card, so will that handle all connections to the net? if so how can i check that all is well.

so whats the proper way of doing things besides pluggin in the cable and praying for the best, coz that has always worked for me in the past.

mecha posted good tip. You'll want to release then renew your ip, and that should get your pc to pick up a new ip addy.
