GSE Episode 2: Linkin Park - Somewhere I Belong

Great Song Exposure Episode 2: Linkin Park - Somewhere i Belong

I'm not really a big fan of the "emo" scene, so i was hesitant to even put the album in my CD player (yes, mp3 players haven't killed them off YET). For one, i think all Linkin Park songs sound the same from the lyrics to the drumlines etc. However, i did pay $5 for the album (employee discount ), so i grinded my teeth through most of the tracks. Anyways, track 3, Somewhere I Belong really blew me away and i felt it deserved to be heard by people who stayed away from it for "emo" reasons.
yes, the lyrics are "emo", i warn you. However, the title itself can relate to a lot of teenagers who are looking to grow and find themselves. Its not the typical linkin track about cutting yourself or being hit by your parents or whatever. its simply about fitting into a world that is changing faster than you can find time to relate to it.
the track itself is phenomenal. Even through the vocals are mostly yelling, the volume is just right so it doesn't hit ur C-note. The guitar is hard, the drums are slammin. It seems like a very slow tempo song, but if you listen to it right, taking in the lyrics, the track goes by quickly.
i listened to the rest of meteora (the album title) and was hoping to hear songs as well thoughtout as Somewhere I Belong, but my hopes fell short. Like i said, it's mostly about parent apathy and self abuse.
Buy the single off of iTunes or "borrow" it. I hope you will agree it is an alternative emo song that actually has more relation to people other than those who are taking anti depressants or victims of broken homes.

Dresden used a knife. When that knife turned out to be too blunt, Dresden used a sharper knife to slice the penis off. Gabriel apparently tried to eat his share of his own penis..but could not because it was too..."chewy". Dresden then sautéed the penis in a pan with salt, pepper, and garlic.

btw, i'm looking for a song title. Nine Inch Nails had a music video a few years back where Trent Reznor is running from a jail or something. anyone got the title?
