I live here in the DC area (Bethesda MD), hang out in the city quite a bit, and it sucks. Socially speaking, it's one of the most toxic, unfriendly places in America.
Anybody else living in DC or ever been here for a visit?
I find it ironic that Forbes Magazine consistently puts DC in the "Top 5 Places for Singles." This year, they ranked it #5:
I agree there are many singles but the vibe is just UGH. A lot of cliques and a lot of phony Euros. Dupont and Adams Morgan in particular are so phony. In the 2 years of living here I've only had a few dates...
anybody agree/disagree

ive currently been visiting for 3 weeks now. its nice to visit, but not to live. club nations is an alright club, but there arent any others in the area. everything is expensive, and i find many of the people to be fake, i dunno. the city is a pretty majestic place, but i wouldnt want to live here.
above all, theres nothing to do. theres usually something to do, some place to go in florida.

i've lived in the d.c. metro area pretty much all my life, there's a lot of pretentiousness (sp?) in certain clubs i would say; for the most part though there's plenty to do, i guess it depends on what kind of people u know or about particular spots to go to (not just clubs).

Its true, dude. DC is a really tough city to meet people in. Believe me, I didn't have a lack of people in my social circle by any means, but as far as dating or making friends, its really hard.
I moved to Toronto almost 6 yrs ago, and on a typical night out at a club, you could come home w/5 new friends phone numbers. I think I only made 2 friends in the 5+ yrs I was going to Buzz. People are WAY friendlier here.
Dating on the other hand was even tougher up here. DC was full of dogs who wouldn't commit, but at least you got laid. It took me 4 yrs to meet anyone here (and lucky for me he stuck around ).

It's very clique-y here. Very hard to meet people because of the unfriendly, negative vibe. Everybody has their guards up, even NYC is a hundred times friendlier.
Besides, this town is amazingly small. Chances are, if you go to a few parties, you've already seen most of the people in that circle. And you'll bump into others from different circles, all the time. It's an extremely small place.
@ CobraCommander - so do you agree it's fake? @ whoever asked about scoring - yep. I recently went to NYC for a weekend, and on both nights saw girls who were interested in me. That's a lot more than I've had here in DC in many, many months. NOBODY SMILES HERE ever.

first of all, it's club nation. not nations. second of all, that is NOT the only thing to do! if you guys aren't having fun in DC, maybe that has to do with YOU and not the city. i live right between dc and baltimore, and always have a great time. TONS to do in both!

That's completely different.
Baltimore and College Park have a completely different vibe to them. They're more in tune with the rest of America (i.e. people are friendly, not defensive).
@TranceVanDyk you better be careful because there's more cops here than in all your Florida PD combined. Hell, they're all like irate dogs here. Always ready to be pull somebody over or arrest you. They're crazy here.
