[Review] BiG MiKE @ Opus 22
I made a review thread because I believe there are some things that DJs should be aware of should they decide to play there in the future.
First, I'd like to thank the 1 or 2 people that showed up. The setup is real cool as well as the sound system. I think I can sum everything up in case certain people who were thinking about going to this place but had no idea what to expect:
The only time to play a Progressive/House/Trance style is only on Mondays. All the other open nights are for Hip-hop and whatever else is described on the site. So unless you can get people to come out on a Monday, you'll be playing for no one but the music director Mondays, there is a DJ named L.A. Thomas who plays Soulful House with a Jazzy Tropical twist to it. The crowd there were people who were into that vibe. Not a whole lot of people, but it was a decent looking night. The music director wanted me to keep the same vibe or something relative to it.
Of course, I don't play the style as I mentioned above. So I just played Progressive and some House. I only played for an hour because no one was really there except for Dan (partyhopper) and I didn't believe it was fair for me to keep the director and his other employee there for nothing.
In conclusion, the director told me he is not booking anyone at the moment. If he was to, you'd better hope its on a Friday/Saturday or heck, even a Sunday night. Every other night is a worknight for most people. So you won't have a crowd unless you bring people yourself.
As far as the system/setup is, its real nice. Need to get used to that Xone 92 Mixer a bit more. From what I saw, you cant use two cue buttons at once. At least I had no trainwrecks
