Damn...been so long since I've heard that actually spun at a club...

A little bit about DJ Human Clone (cause I was curious)

quote:

Real Name: Dan Black

J Human Clone:
VNV Nation, De/Vision, Neuroticfish, Project Pitchfork, Absurd Minds

DE: How do you summarize & describe the music you play?

Human Clone: I play a broad spectrum of music: Darkwave, Industrial, Synthpop, Goth, Retro, Electronica and a little Punk every now and then. Hopefully everbody can take something away that they enjoyed from the evening. I try very hard to accommodate all requests, really it is the partrons that program the music I play.

DE: What are some of your personal favorite songs to play in a club environment?

Human Clone:
I Walk the Line - Alien Sex Fiend, Rubber Glove Seduction - PTP (sorry Lance, I know you hate this one), How Soon is Now - The Meatmen, The Chauffer - Battery, Instant Club Hit - Dead Milkmen, Heart Shapped Tumour - De/Vision
Stalker / Luminal - Covenant, Darkest Dream - Cesium:137, Sin - Nine Inch Nails, Evolution - Decoded Feedback, Futile - Velvet Acid Christ, Regret - Icon of Coil, Let Me Be your Armour / Surface - Assemblage 23, Requim -Technoir
En Garde / Rescue - Project Pitchfork, Smack My Bitch Up - Prodigy, Perfect Sunrise - Stromkern, You Suck - Consolidated, Sleepwalk - Christian Death
Join In the Chant / Lightning Man - Nitzer Ebb, The Great Commandment - Camouflage

DE: Where & when was your first "real" DJ gig at a club?

Human Clone: The early 90's at the Pines Club in Hamilton. I would spin vinyl (anyone remember vinyl?) of at that time "alternative" artists (Depeche Mode, The Cure, New Order, Nitzer Ebb, The Smiths, Erasure...).

DE: Do you use Napster / Similar online music software as a source for music you play in clubs?

Human Clone: No, I do not play burned cds. I did however use Napster as a resource tool. It was a great way for me to find new music. Most discs that I buy are imports (costly). Napster allowed me to listen to the artist before I made the purchase. Hopefully someone will develop a site that artists can post thier music to, to be listened to, and not downloaded.

I love going to HMV or Penguin and flipping through the industrial section or finding something new online. I enjoy the artwork and liner notes almost as much as the music itself.

DE: What kind of music do you listen to at home / on your own time?

DJ Human Clone: The exact same music as I play in the club. I listen to music constantly, televison bores me... except the Simpsons (guilty pleasure) I can quote episodes verbatim.

DE: What was the 1st CD / Cassette / Record you every bought for yourself?

DJ Human Clone: Being of Scotish descent I was a big Bay City Rollers fan at the age of six (my face is red with embarassment, I even had the tartan pants) thus that was my first record purchase. The first compact disc I bought was the Style Council - Long Hot Summer.

DE: Who are *your* favorite DJs in the city?

DJ Human Clone: My partner in crime DJ Carnage and I have quite similar tastes. DJ Bolt is excellent also, I really admire some the things he is doing within the scene. Nadx is another and I can't forget DJ Todd, I enjoy Real Synthetic Audio immensely. I recently had the chance to spin with Antithesis and had a fantastic time. One to watch DJ Shady Past.

DE: Why should people come to your club night???

DJ Human Clone: Personally I do not like to hear the same style of music all night long. DJ Carnage and I mix it up enough to keep everyone interested. The Vatikan itself is a great club for dancing or just lounging. Lots of interesting people, I've made some great friendships there.
