Weird, when I had my Virus, I just opened the MIDI file with Windows Media Player and it would start loading immediately.

Hey rusty thanks for that..
Well I downloaded the sounddiver bundle with the link you provided... the only problem is that it doesnt detect a 'midi connection'... I can play the virus in sounddiver with my midi controller and I can hear the sound... but for some reason all my 'c,d,e,f,g,h' banks are 'dimmed out' and not accessible?
What could be the cause of this?.. my cable is going from sound card 'out' to virus 'in'.
thank you

And you do of course have another midi cable going from: "Virus Out" to "Soundcard In".... yes?

First, let's ensure that you have your Virus set up correctly.
a) Soundcard Midi Out --> Virus Midi In
Virus Midi Out --> Soundcard Midi In
I'm presuming that in Cubase (Or your sequencer) that you can both play midi notes via the piano roll; and also can record any knob changes (movements) as well? So we are sure that you have your Midi In/Out all set up correctly, no?
b) Have you setup your connections in SoundDiver correctly?
Here's what mine looks like:
I think; there is a setting in SoundDiver for "Send Midi Thru" so even if you are not connected 100%; it may internally route the notes....
Ok, a few random thoughts....
1) Do you HAVE banks C-H ??? Because you need to use the "1024.Mid" file to replace the demo song with new Rom banks C-H (daft I know, just checking)
2) You sure you are running the right SoundDiver version? Your Virus should be OS6.5 You can see this on power up, it will show on the Virus's screen.
If you are in SoundDiver, try double-clicking on Patch A000 to open up the editor, look over at the arp menu (should be middle top or so) and see how many "Arp Patterns" there are. "SoundDiver Virus OEM 6.5" should display 64 patterns (If it is only 40, could be a very good chance that you running an older version of SoundDiver)
(I don't think SoundDiver shows the version on the splash/into screen (can't remember) or you should be able to go: "Menu -> Help -> About")
TBH, I have never seen this before on mine.
You can highlight "Bank A" so it selects all of the singles from A000 to A127? and then do "Ctrl-R" for Request, this should transfer all the settings from the Virus to SoundDiver.... but yet you can't do this for Banks C to H?
Some further reading, been helping out another guy on trance.nu who has been having similiar problems...

What you should need to do is import the midi file into Cubase (or your sequencer) and assign that channel to go to your "Soundcard Out Ch1"
Set the tempo to 60bpm, then you just need to hit play and sit back and let it do it's thing. The Virus should now say "Receiving Data" or something.
Just be patient and it will load in the new bank.
