Smiley DJ Dub

I just want to know how many of those TA's are fans of the electronic sounds of Dub. What DJs and producers do you like?

There is a music genre called Dub? I thought that was just a non vocal remix to a song.

Nah, Ive never heard of it neither. Must be a Mexican term for something else. Instrumental trance maybe?? Yeah, I just thought it was the name given to a non-vocal mix of a vocal track too.

Dub as a term has been around a few decades more than trance....

Dub was "invented" in the late 60s in Jamaica and the original meaning of it was sort of an alternate, toned down, mostly instrumental style of ska and reggae and has been used in various places and contexts ever since. Read more HERE and/or HERE.

Dub doesn't quite equal to instrumental and least it does that in EDM because dub mixes here are usually toned down from highs and lows, more subtle versions of a track and with less vocals (can include some excerpts of vocals here and there) while instrumentals can be pretty much the same than vocal versions but completetely without the vocals. Alot of people seem to think dub is the same as instrumental when it isn't.

As for dub producers in EDM, i can't think of any.. i guess because i have never been a fan of that style or genre or whatever it would be. But i do remember hearing some dubby tracks from The Orb, Massive Attack and some others.

Cool mate, thanks for the info. You're definately right about a Dub having "bits of the vocal not necessarily none of it". I should have noted that in my previous post. Cheers bud
