my buddy once got a ticket for speeding and he had to send it in with a cheque so what he did was send in a cheque for more money than the ticket was worth. They sent the cheque back to him and thats the last time he heard of the ticket. (rumor) I think so
(Worth a try) HELL YA!

apparently you can pay a ton of money though Points to get it taken care of.. they will erase your points and ticket.. but i think it costs somewhere along the lines of $300+ to do it..

I think there was a thread a long while back about this.. and if my memory is correct.. it was dance2dabeat who got the ticket?? I could be wrong though!

No offense, but your friend is full of shit if he said that. It's an old urban legend that you can overpay the ticket, and they'll send you back a check for the balance, and if you don't cash it then some glitch in the system will prevent the ticket from ever getting processed. It DOESN'T WORK! The Ontario government is MORE than happy to accept your little gift!

FYST is a decent resource (www.magma.com/~fyst). If you don't trust their advice (it's pretty good but it won't *always* work) then I think your best bet is just to hire a lawyer (if you have lots of money), go to Pointts (if you have a little money), or start sobbing to a Justice of the Peace and hope that they take pity on you and reduce your fine/points. (if you have no money).

They most certainly will not. They guarantee a "win", but that's just a reduction in the fine/points. There's no guarantee how much of a reduction, and there may be no reduction at all - it just means you get your money back, but you're still raped on insurance. If you go with an agency like Pointts or X-Copper, then the only way you can get off scot-free is if the cop doesn't show up to court, in which case you'd have been better off saving your money and going to court yourself.

see, I wouldn't know that for sure.. just from things I have heard.
I have always just taken the hit in points and paid my fines.. I can't be bothered with fighting it. But I have been lucky, my insurance has NEVER gone up even with all my tickets!

Damn, you are lucky. In my first year of driving, I got a huge-ass speeding ticket and my "agent" decided on the day of the trial that he couldn't make it to court, so I had to take the full hit. Well, my insurance went up $100/month the following year, w00t!

Edit: Just so there's no confusion, that's up *BY* $100, not up *TO* $100.

You can try one of 2 things

First of all #1 you got to get a trial date in Peel you got to go in person top do it now but I don't know for sure what the situation is in Toronto. So check the not guilty with trial date on the ticket.

1) If you’re feeling luck, on the trial date (remembering with the officer looks like) go to the court house and check your trial time. Then keep an eye out for the officer the whole time before your trial. If you lucky they wont show up and you plead not guilty in front of the judge. If they don’t show then you’re off.

2) The safer approach if on the trial date you go on the courtroom and hour or so before the am or pm sessions begin and tell the crown attorney you are wiling to plead guilty to the reduced infraction. This will be 0 point and most insurance companies will allow 2 minor moving violations per year without any increase in rates.

Hope this helps.

This is what my coworker did. He was about 30 over but pleaded to 10 over (I think) so no points but he paid the fine.
