Arrow Dealing with schizophrenia

After watching the movies "Pi" and "A beautiful mind" , I started wondering about schizophrenia, and how people deal with it. From the small reading I did it seems it attacks mostly men in their late teens or early twenties. There is very little knowledge about it, and modern science can tell very little about it, or do much for the people affected by it.
So, what got me wondering was how people dealt with it back in the day before science stole the mystere from nature.
Could it possibly be, that the whole demon, dark forces around us kind of thing, which are existent in some form or another in every culture in this planet, began not as a form of social control, but instead as the "revelation" of a person affected by schizophrenia? That would mean that much of our cosmology started in fact by people with schizophrenia (and note that schizophrenia is NOT split-personality) who were trying to deal with the sensory information others did not perceive.
I know we cannot but make hypotheses about this kind of subject, and that this idea might but just a product of ignorace about the subject, but if anyone minds giving an honest opinion of the subject, well, lets just see where it leads us to.

One man's craziness is another's common sense it could be argued.

But going off of averages, by definition then, most schizo's have a chemical imbalance in the brain from what I understnad about it.

And there is medicine that has been proven to work on those afflicted...I think more is understood about it than you may know.

Re: Dealing with schizophrenia

Yeah, if people were schizophrenic about right stuff, they were considered messiahs. Otherwise they were considered possessed and killed.

My brother has it and all I can say is that it is a terrible, terrible disease. Nobody should have to go through what he is going through on a daily basis. Very sad.

My dad is Bi-Polar which, IMHO, is worse than being full out schizophrenic.
At least with people who have schizophrenia you know they're schizophrenic.
With Bi-Polar people like my dad, there's always a shadow of doubt sometimes until he's on an total high; which then, is quite obvious to just about anybody with a heartbeat.

My dad's cycles are quite long, he may not have a swing for several years and then it'll seemly come out of no where.
I've concluded that stress is a big factor (when it comes to my dad anyways) and medication consistency.

I will say that when he is on a high, he has NO idea (for the most part) that they're acting any different than they normally do and in my dad's case, vehemently deny it. They're of sound mind otherwise which makes trying to admit him during his highs very hard to do.
He's not breaking any laws, hurting anybody or the like so he can't be forced by law; he has to go willingly...

It's very hard on familiy let me tell you, I hope no one ever has to go through it...
