I wanted to get some detailed explanations of how to record from my tables to my pc.

On the back of my PC I have 2 free USB ports, a "mic" port, and a "line in" port.

On the back of my mixer I have the outputs set to my monitor speakers. I'm confused of how I get to record my mix onto my computer while still being able to hear the sound live through the monitors. Pics of cables used or good descriptions would help me a lot. I'm horrible with electronics.

get an RCA (red and white) to 1/4 inch (Small Headphone jack) and plug it into your line in on your cpu.

just to confirm from what i understand you then have to use software to record the linein sound right?

saves me asking the question when i get turntables

ok so the red and white plugs connect to the output on my mixer? If I do this i wont be able to hear my mix live through the speakers. Sounds like I would have to mix everything through headphones.

You mean you don't have "master" and "record" outputs in your mixer?

yeah, everyones mixer should have at least 2 places where sound signals leave it...

my numark has 4-

record
master
balanced (for teh big plugs)
headphone jack (for cueing)

yours should have at least 2...plus the headphone out..

hmmm, it looks like you are going to have to do things the difficult way then. I would buy two of these (or something similar - one for each channel to split it)

That should allow you to run to multiple sources. Then you just need all the wires.

Which programs do you guys use to record? Any free ones?

where do those splitters connect on the back of the mixer. Do I connect the splitters to the white or to the red holes on each channel?

Be careful with splitters because you can get feedback now that you'll have a direct connection from your monitor speakers to your computer as well.

stalker, plug the splitters into your master outs. one into the white one, and one in the red one.

what you are doing is turning one master out, into two master outs. -one for your monitor, and one for recording.

seeing that there is just a little bit of space back there, you will have the connectors in 9oclock, and 3oclock position. plug the cables that will go to the monitor in the right side (3 oclock) and the then plug the cables going to your computer to the left side (9oclock) or vice versa, for the sake organization, don't criss-cross your cables, or plug them in diagnaly.

if your soundcard has a line out (it should, since that's where the speakers are connected to.) you can plug your mixer directly to the computer, w/out adapters, then use an adapter to connect the monitor to the line out on your sound card. -i would recommend you do it this way. splitters may add noise to your mix. you may also have to compensate by boosting your levels because of the splitters.

if possible, upgrade your mixer.

ya i know im running on a nub mixer here. any suggestions of the next step up that would be more recording friendly?
