See this is what i'm wondering about SSL..

Just the other day (yesterday in actually ) I decided to randomly buy some vinyl.. spent my hard earned money and couldn't wait to get home to have a good listen to them and start trying to find songs that would work well with my new songs.

Now i've been considering getting SSL (but have been stalling as i'm buying a laptop along side this and it's costing me an arm and a leg!)

So this is my question,

When you got SSL (or FS etc) did the fun of getting a new song go out the window? Obviously you're still gonna be downloading a new song or two every week/day from some legal online shop, but i can't help but think it isn't going to feel the same? There's no physical buying in the purchase, and there's nothing to really admire bar the name of your new mp3 track.. (not that we all admire our new vinyls but you get what i mean..)

Just wanted to know your thoughts on that...

Does it become less special getting new songs with SSL?

nelly

yes and no,, you dont getr that new record feeling, but oif you are doing it legal (beatport etc) i prefer it as i feel like i can really focus on finding songs that work, im sure many of you have come home with a couple vinyls u know youll never use in a set..

Hmm.. i get what you mean, i suppose you have to give up something if you want to save some money here and there.

What i might do instead is just buy the songs i really like on vinyl. However i know i'll say that now and find it really difficult to spend money on songs i already have on mp3

Just wanted to see what people's feelings were in general..

I also know what you're saying regarding tunes you'll probably never play in a set, it's great when you get a remix you haven't heard before though and really like it I love it when that happens..

i don't think it would be the same feeling theres something special about buying a new record that you dug out of a bin and putting it on your own table and cuing it up for the first time and being rewarded with a sound you love. Its just different when you don't have the physical feeling of the record in your hands.

yes, it does, the fun of mixing a new track is still there, but the allure of a new record does fade away. but i still buy vinyl, mostly white labels and promos that you cant get online, or stuff from smaller labels that no one has ever heard. i will allways love vinyl, but i love my SSL just as much.

I've done a few quick searches on beatport, etc, mainly for Acid/Hard Acid/Tech Trance... I searched for Kai Tracid and came up with ONE result. Derb came up with NONE. Maybe you have to be a registered user or there's some very sneaky way to find your tracks, but I was searching by Label, by Artist, by Title, and I still couldn't trust Beatport to deliver what I needed. I'll probably be sticking to vinyl for acid/hard acid/tech trance.

I also have a hell of a time finding digital files I'd actually play in a set.
