Paul Oakenfold

Has anyone checked out his mix's lately?

I just looked at a tl of his in the other forum and of the 5 songs I saw.... What a let down. Is it just me? I mean I quit listening to him before Bunnka but man... he could at least try to be original or at least up to date

Because a DJ's worth is based on how up-front his tracks are, obviously.

I'm seeing him next weekend, so I'll be basing an opinion off that later.

Yup. You'd probably have to pay me to see him. I stopped listening after 2000.

I saw Oakenfold recently with Armin and Junkie XL, and I was pleasently surprised. I always thought he sucked, and after hearing trainwreck after trainwreck in his mixes, I was not enthusiastic to see him. I only went to see Armin and Junkie. Well I must say that his live set was quite good. He didn't mess up at all, and had a stout tracklist that included some brand new tunes as well as some classics. I would probably go see him again because he did such a good job. Oakenfold had a good set; wow, I never thought I would say that.

let me get this straight. you'll bash tiesto all day and all night, but you're paying money to see paul oakenfold?

i saw him and july and he was a mess. the worst transitions ive ever heard. multiple occasions where he was galloping so badly the he just killed the original track and the incoming one appeared out of nowhere. the local DJ that played 4 slots before him was better.

My review from back in April...

quote:
... doesn't fucking try anymore. Nou, you didn't miss much. His transitions were shit, the tracks weren't well beatmatched nor queued correctly and he tended to do quick fades. He also forgot what an EQ is for a few transitions.

Half the time he just stood there watching the crowd dance. He did his weird "touch my penis!" pose a few times, which in all honesty looks really, really ghey. If he wasn't sitting on the table, he was hidden behind some monitors or occasionally clapping and doing an "I'm Jesus!" pose. He left the booth three times. Once, he came up to the edge of the stage and reached for peoples hands but pulled it away emotionally. The second, he walked up to a lady in a wheel chair right in front and talked to her, which was actually very nice of him. The third time really pissed me off...

He powered down a record, and as soon as it was down, he fades in none other than PPfuckingK - Resurrection. He lets it play, and goes off to the side of the stage, sits on his ass, and chats with some guy. He lets the entire track play out to the end of the vinyl. No mixing, no nothing.

For the most part, he didn't spend too much time with his headphones on. I wouldn't see him again if you paid me too (unless, by some freak force of nature, he improves).
