You could get another mixer or get an RCA to XLR adapter that plugs into the XLR jack on the speakers. Then you just run a normal RCA cable from your mixer RCA jack to this adapter plugged into your Mackie speaker.

RCA(female) to XLR(male) adapter. But check it out before you buy (I'm assuming the speaker has a female XLR jack as indicated in the Makie image), the adapters are about US$10 each.

If your RCA cable is not too long it will probably be OK and not pick up any hum or noise. The levels are supposed to be a little higher on the XLR (compared to line-level on a RCA cable) but it should work.

How bout if I use the 1/4 inputs on my mixer to conver them to XLR?

Would it make any difference in quality as opposed to using RCA to XLR?

& would I be sacrificing a significant loss in quality that I should suggest getting a new mixer? Or should it be ok?

arent the top master outs on that mixer XLR? maybe i am understanding you wrong? i have a 275 with Rockit 8 Monitors and I have them connected via XLR.

Oh I see now, you guys are right, I was under the impression the mixer only had RCA outputs. It does indeed have XLR outputs in the 1/4" style. So all SoundOfTrance needs is a pair of 1/4" TRS male to XLR male cables.

The XLR signal jacks use different connectors depending on the equipment. A 1/4" TRS (tip-ring-sleeve) "phone jack", or the 3 pin connector commonly known as XLR (also used for microphone signals which are much lower level than XLR).

First off

a 1/4" is also referred to as a jack and NOT XLR like you seem to say.

Secondly
1/4" TRS have two uses, Phone jack output ( left right ) and symetrical. I seriously doubt the output on this mixer in question is symetrical hence no need to get a TRS cable.

j dat is correct, the 1/4" outputs on the pcv275 are unbalanced 1/4' TS. all you need is 1/4" TS male to XLR male. DO NOT ROUTE ANYTHING THROUGH AN AMPLIFIER. this is just plain STUPID. the SRM450 is a POWERED sound reinforcement monitor, putting an amp in before the SRM will fry your inputs.

these cables are cheap and simple, no extra harware requred. just stroll into a sam ash or quitar center, or anyplace that sells pro audio gear and say:

"Hi, my name is _________________, i need a pair of shielded 1/4" TS male to XLR male cables that are _______ long." got it? cool.

*edit* for the record:

1/4" jacks can be 2 types, balanced or unbalanced also refered to as TRS (tip, ring, sleeve) or TS (tip, sleeve) respectively. TRS are not allways stereo connecetions. a balanced TRS jack can be mono, this happens in high end equip where the output broadcasts the mono audio signal over all three connnections (the tip, ring and sleeeve) it uses the sleeve as a gound connection, the tip as the "positive" and the ring as "negative" which is put in reverse phase.

a balanced TRS has the lowest chance for interference because when the signal is recieved, the "positive" and "negative" cancel each other out, and what is left over is noise or interference which the input device can then filter out.
