i still can't believe this happened to me....(thank u sean cassidy for everything)
this happened on saturday night:
i just want to express my love for sean cassidy, dj robben and of course dj endgame.
this past weekend i was feeling extremely down. in general i was an emotional wreck. at work on saturday night after seating an older indian couple, i continued to run around helping out the servers and my manager. We had a party of 45 come in with the band and had reserved a few tables for them in two sections of the room. I sat this older couple beside one of the reserved tables, thinking they were reserved. When they were leaving i said goodnight, and goodbye to them and the older gentleman start yelling at me...he first asked my name then said "danielle, i think you are racist!" while looking right into my eyes. I was dumbfounded...i had no clue what to say. He explained that we has lived here for 40 years and in england for a long period of time, and has never had to deal with racism against him. That he was going to go to the press about how the company is racist. I asked him calming why he thought this. He replied in a frantic tone that i had sat him in at a bad table, and that i didnt want to seat them in the reserved booth. Unknowingly i found out later that my manager had moved a white couple into the booth the create a larger reserved table on the otherside of the room. The older gentleman started calling me names such as "Jap", "Chink" ... and saying that they were all the same. My manager explained to him the situation...but in all honesty tears were welling up in my eyes. i know as many have told me that i shouldnt take things like this (from people i don't persoanlly know) to heart. But in my emotional state...i couldnt take it.
I have never been accused of anything like this. My uncle (my dads bestfriend) is from Trinidad...i grew up with his kids...who are actually like my sisters...Tania and Shonnaugh. My twin cousins are a mix between trini, jamaican, chinese, newfie and japanese. I have a italian godfather...my family is 4th generation canadian meaning...during the second world war my family was put into concentration camps, everythinh was taken away from them; their homes, lives, possessions and freedom...even though they were all canadian. My grandmother experienced discrimination where ever she went...in canada, in japan (for not being japanese and japanese speaking) My family has lived with discrimination for years...and has held strong. I am a minority in this country still...
It hurt soo much, to be accused of something like this being someone of japanese decent.
So when this man looked into my eyes and said this to me...it hurt a lot.
Afterward he went on saying that his son had married a thai girl and that their grand daughter had my eyes...i think he could tell how much he hurt me...caus as he said that tears were slowly beginning to trickle down my face while i tried to smile and stay calm.
during the rest of my shift at worked i shrugged it off...but it still seriously bothered me.
I couldnt stop crying, when i got home...i felt so misunderstood.
I called drew who tried his best to calm me down...
Sean Cassidy then talked to me...i have never met such a strong amazing wonderful person. Not only did he comfort me but he reminded me about how i have the bestest friends in the world. He highlighted my strengths and reminded me that it doesnt matter what other people think, and that i have a house full of people who luv me in cambridge...he sent his hugs and happiest vibes....He mixed this with his amazing humour and total absolute love.
I realized that even from far away...these people still bring a smile to my face...wipe away my tears...and help me rip up the dancefloor...
thank you: sean, drew and mikey for all your love....and long distance hugs.
