I know that 1200's have something around 7 kgf-cm... What's the approximate lowest level of torque to still get good performance?

According to the Technics 1200MKII manual, the drive has 1.5 kg/cm starting torque ...

well, then "more than 1kgf-cm" sounds really good in a turntable ad.

and another question here (The most stupid I could ever think of, but I still don't know the answer).

What is the difference among manual, semiautomatic and automatic turntables?

Hehe, that "more than 1kg/cm" torque can mean it has 1.05 kg/cm ... hehe, that is always a good way to make your deck look really good without it being good =).

On a manual turntable you have to take the tonearm and put it back on the holder when the record runs out - on a semiautomatic that is done automatically ... I'm not sure what a fully automatic turntable does, but I assume that it changes records automatically and then places the needle at the start by itself.

peace

I was thinking about this the other day, does it matter about torque that much? I always leave my decks spinning so it doesn't really affect me.

Well, if your deck has low torque then your platter would slow down and stop when you hold your record on the cue point ... and it wouldn't start up as fast... If the platter still spins at (almost) full speed when you back-cue or hold the record still then you have enough torque...

peace
