Done School and Working

So how many TOTAs here are done with school and have found jobs in the field they studied?

I spent four years studying Geography and now I'm an Insurance Adjuster.....at least part of my education was useful....I can read the map to get to peoples houses.

Im all done, I still cant believe it.

I graduated in December from Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts, a private school where I studied dancing, singing and acting for musical theatre.

Right now im working at a restaurant to pay the bills and so I can afford to keep up with dance classes, vocal lessons all that jazz. Its a pain in the ass to work outside of my field but Ive got to make some moola while I audition.

I know itll happen eventually and that nothing is going to fall into my lap but, its so easy to be lazy! Or, to be too busy that you forget about why you're working the crap job in the first place!

I'm kind of in-between, although i wish i could say i was out of school. It's a much nicer world. Been working for the past 7 months at a TV station as an IT coordinator. I got that set up through the school co-op office where I studied computer engineering... and as soon as i'm done here in november i'm gonna go back, finish up and "further my edumacation". Thats what i mean about being in-between. Even though i could just keep working in the field i'd rather get some more stuff under my belt that will HOPEFULLY take me to higher places. Although, the things i've heard from people that have been through it are making me question if that will really make a difference

and lakeport tastes just fine after 3 or 4

good thread, my buddies and I talk about this stuff all the time. I have a BSC in Anatomy and did a year and a half of Chiropractic college before heading out into the world. Now i'm a Business Coordinator @ CIBC - doing my CSC and such and still in school taking night courses in economics/policy.

I find it amazing how many people never truly get into the field they study in school.

I attribute my doings with school really becuase of the parentals. I didnt' know what I wanted to do at all when I finished highschool. My older sister was already in Chiro school, and the fact that every immigrant family wants a Dr. a Lawyer or an Engineer child, it was just natural for me to head into that direction. I had no idea that things would change such as they did, however I don't regret it at all. I'm much happier now.

i can't comment yet as i'm finishing my 4th year this year in music. but i do have a job writing music for a documentary right now, so its a start in the right direction. i'm also going to be a grade school teacher and plan on being very musical, so it should come in handy. (although university itself didn't really train me well in the specifics of what i want to learn, but i guess thats a given).

I find it amazing how people continually translate/ expect a higher-learning education to give them practical skillsets relating to a profession.

"Oh that's a shame, you aren't doing what you studied"

Learning is about learning, not about making money. lol
