i dont know about cubase since i dont use it but lets start over and do this step by step.
1) patch your virus to the latest firmware update. be careful you dont overwrite your own patches so you may want to do a sysex/midi dump to HD first.
2) uninstall and reinstall your m-audio soundcard driver. make sure that the main output is set to monitor mixer if possible, although outputs 1 & 2 should also work.
3) make sure sample rate is set to 44,100 khz. clock internal.
4) move the master fader up to 0 dB. move the input 1 & 2 fader up to 0 dB.
5) start up fl studio.
6) in fl studio, set the outgoing midi port to '1' and open the MIDI OUT plugin. set the port to 1 and channel to 1.
7) open up fruity's mixer section and select channel 1. at the bottom of the mixer select under IN: audiophile in 1 & 2. leave the OUT as: master.
8) your virus should playback through fruity's mixer now. to see if it is chorusing, set your ASIO buffer up really really high - if its playing double then you need to mute playback in the m-audio system tray mixer. you may need to switch between monitor mixer and HW in 1 & 2.
9) to record, you have to do so through fruity's mixer. so arm it by clicking the little disk icon in the bottom right hand corner of the mixer window. a 'save as' window will come up. save it to wherever you want but remember where it is. once the mixer is armed, choose whatever rendering settings you want then press the record button in the main window. press play. a metronome will count you in and you will begin recording.
doing all of this should get your virus to playback and record normally. im having trouble understanding exactly what is going on - therefore, could you please record a short clip of your virus so i can hear what is going on. also, can you give more specific details of your problem and your system setup? also, some details on your virus would be helpful - press ctrl on your virus and tell us whats going on in there. ive never heard of anyone losing bass on their virus (i mean, its one of the motherfucking bassiest virtual analogues out there :O). recording from my virus b is identical to playback.
to gr8ape. if your virus has a low recording level you can increase the volume of that particular patch in the edit window on your virus. you can also increase the volume using inputboost in the ctrl window although dont set it too high or the LFO will begin to emit audible high pitched squeals. thats normal but it will give you ear ache after a while. again, if this doesnt solve the prob, elaborate on the problem and give us some details on what options you have checked in your soundcard mixer and some of the input/ctrl values on your virus.
by the way, its normal for most people to have problems initially setting up their virus. i had about 3 or 4 really serious ones but they have all either been fixed or ive learned to live with them. once its configured right its like a well oiled machine from thereon in.
