So I'm thinking about finally DJing

After a few years of production work and working a lot as a bedroom producer, i've decided to finally take up DJing. sounds like a lot of fun, and i'd love to throw a party somewhere, something that deals with music i like outside of my bedroom.

i'm thinking about spinning trance and drum n bass, breakbeats or something... most likely not hip hop, here in the city i'm sure there's a million other hip hop DJs and it really doesn't offer much room for creativity, you either play 50 cent or stfu

anyways, i've been saving up and have around a thousand dollars (a little flexible here with budget if it is truly a great deal) to spend on equipment. I need everything: headphones, mixer, tables.

I'm pretty much set on CD tables as they have cheaper media (i heart digital downloads), less wear and tear, more compact, and i can play my own songs . I would like to have turntables that have the scratchign features.

after a bit of research, i'm still very very lost.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what are you lost about?

1k for all your equipment is going to be tight.

you can get

2 x Pioneer CDJ-200 ($350 each) = $700
1 x some $200 mixer (pcv275/pio707) = $200
Sony 7506 Cans - $100

I dont actually know if the cdj200s can scratch since i dont scratch.

You cna also try getting used equipment off Ebay.

teh cdj 200s have been recommended to me and they look great, actually

BUT no scratching and i don't know if that's a feature i would like to sacrifice because for what i want to do, scratching may be a necessity.

i'm currently reading up on headphones and am considering a few things... gluegun seems to be obsessed with the sony v6s but i also have heard bad things as well so... (omg i really should be studying for my exams)

3 things

1. cdj-800

2. v6s are awesome any one who says theyre shit about them is stupid. the only problem is the pads fade with heavy use. nothing that cant be easily and cheaply repalced. no other can has a good a trakc record for the price.

3. pio 707 or pcv 275 FTW. dont look at anythign less than those.

the v6 and the 7506 is basically the same headphone. the 7506 has gold plated connectors which arent going to make a difference. everything else is the same.

you may be thinking of the v600 which is much different and VERY crappy.

please correct me if i'm wrong, but i understand that the price difference between cdj 200s and 800s are not that large. this is due to the pitch control. The cdj 800 is not as precise as the 200.

Will this difference in precision be that big of a factor when mixing?

hmm.. not HUUGE.. but somewhat noticable..

cdj-800 = .05%
cdj-200 = .02%

MOST players are .1%

im a final scratch whore myself but when i use an 800 or the cmx-3000 (another fine choice but scratching isnt great.. only ok..) im perfectly fine using .05%

i can mix seamlessly with .1 pitch increments

i agree with dino, cdj-800, sony v6/7506 headphones (i use em and will never use another headphone again) and they'll be perfect for you since you produce as well, they make great monitor headphones

as for a mixer, pioneer djm-707 is probably the best bang for your buck

awesome... looks like i'll start looking into cdj 800 prices...

if the v6 is truly as good as everybody says, then it'll work out perfectly since i'm looking for some good headphone monitors for production

mixers i haven't looked at much yet, but thanks for getting me started on that... looks like its gonna be a pioneer setup for me

thanks a lot guys... i'm gonna posting in this part of TA moreoften now...

... once i get my equipment, that is.

hmm... how does the IXOS Ministry of Sound DJ1001s compare to the v6?

i've read a couple reviews that just rave about it.
