getting singned?

When you have your tracks ready for submission ,and your about to submit to various networks ,whats the best rule of thumb sound wise.

i mean i have my own orignal sound ,but i feel if i sound to genuine and original it may be a bad thing ,since i dont sound like the norm!

i feel if i have a typical sound no one will like my work ,because it will sound like everyone else like im trying to re-invent the wheel, and if i sound too different or original some people wont catch on.

so whats the best rule of thumb when submitting your work.

id like to be original and just do my own creations but sometimes my stuff does not sound like trance ,or what other people would consider trance!

Unfortunately, I dont think any of us here have had success with getting signed. If we were, we wouldnt be participating here. I think you should go with what represents you best. Sorry to not be much help. I have the same problem.

EDIT: This is wrong. I am sorry for offending everyone.

heh wrong! half of us here have already signed, including myself, MK-S, Manvel, Alex Pea, Icone, Activa, Luke Terry (the mod here), and various others.

The best comparison I can give about labels is that labels are a lot like chicks.

Even if you're no mack daddy, there's always at least one chick out there for you. She may not be the best looking, but she appreciates you more than any other woman does.

Someone who does get a lot of chicks has something going for him that does interest them. He may be very attractive, he may have a lot of money, he may be very romantic, or he may tell girls exactly what they want to hear. Any of these qualities will make you a chick magnet. Hot chicks attract other hot chicks. If a hot chick sees you're with a hot chick, that shows the other hotties that you know how to get with them, therefore creating competition. The more chicks you have the more you have to choose from.

Same way with labels... even if you're not the mackdaddy hot fire skills producer, there's always at least one label out there for you. It may not be the biggest, but that label may appreciate your music more than any other one does.

Someone who does get a lot of labels interested in their music has something going for him. He may be a very skilled producer, he may have a lot of money, or he may tell the labels exactly what they need to hear. Any of these qualities will make you a label magnet. Big labels attract other big labels. If a big label see's your with another one, that shows the other big label you're skilled enough or know how to get with big labels, therefore creating competition. The more labels you have interested in your music, the more you have to choose from.

Notice there are more qualities than being a skilled producer. That's why there's a lot of crap being released. The artist may have present an alterior quality to the label that maybe isn't so musical, but one that will sell and that the label would invest their time and money into.

or you can pay someone to do it for you... try a distribution agency... www.sa-uk.com is a good one for trance... you don't pay them upfront, they take a percentage of what you make on the royalties.

Think of it as a dating service
