Metallic Chord Stab

Hey guys,
I really need your help to achieve a certain bass/chord stabbing sound. It sounds really clean and round, almost metallicy. I've experimented a lot already but my minor chords always sound different, softer and less bass.

Example is this Jerome Isma-Ae remix, the stabs start at 0:11.

I suspect it's made in Massive and there is some multiband sidechaining involved to get the pumping effect. Does that sound right?

Thanks

Seems like you'd have to know what synth they're using to replicate it exactly. That bass pluck isn't too unique of a sound though.

The metallic sound most likely comes from either a built in resonance or plugin resonance filter. Could also use a plugin that adds a metallic sound. (Cubase 5 has metalizer for example)

I could come quasi close in Sylenth1...Definitely a detuned saw pluck with sharp attack and near zero release. If it's a single synth, my guess is that it's 4x oscillators running 2-4 voices apiece, 2 of them are set 1 octave low.

If it's a layered synth, who knows...

Also, it's harder to reproduce sounds sitting in a mix...

If someone can nail those plucks I'd be interested in knowing how, seems like a cool bass pluck.

hi theterran and thanks for replying

I can get the general sound of the chord by playing a detuned minor a bit lower on the scale, with a filter envelope and some resonance. What i'm missing is the roundness and presence of the sound. Someone suggested layering a percussion sound over it but that hasn't given me any good results yet.

One thing i did notice, is that a white noise oscillator mixed in at low levels can really help bring the attack out on these sounds when you open up the filter.

If anyone else has some tips or suggestions i would really love to hear them!
