so I've got an decent cd collection that is now useless (especially since I started using SSL) I slowly start to rip my discs.
I am wondering what are the codecs you usually utilize to rip a disk to mp3 in 320kbps format?

I use nero 6 ultra and Ive been using for ages the Lame codec.

there is out there the Mp3PRO after taking a quick sneak at their site - it becomes clear theyre almost prentending they've reinvented the wheel... =)

exact audio copy is one the best rippers to use, along with LAME codec. mp3pro? that came out a long time ago... but i don't know not even one person who ever used it.

yes. EAC and LAME is an unbeatable combination. i know i wouldn't use anything else!

I'm more of a fan of OGG format... better sounds quality, broader frequencies, smaller filesize... it's a win-win situation. The only downside is that CD decks generally just use MP3 or CDA format.

If you're just looking to put them on your computer or something for streaming to a mixer or listening, though, you should give it a shot. Check for the OGG Vorbis encoder for WinAmp 5.

I'm with you, OGG or FLAC all the way

MP3 Pro is designed for a low quality online audio streaming mostly. OGG and other audio compression formats might sound better at given bitrate/size ratio, but there is no better compressed audio then a properly compressed MP3 file at 320kbps.

so you are telling me that compressing with Mp3PRO at 320kbps and compressing with EAC (lame) at 320kbps will sound different on bigger sound systems (lame sounding best) ?

SSL does support Ogg as well as MP3.

From the 1.4 manual-

Supported file types:
Scratch LIVE supports fixed and variable bit rate .MP3, Ogg
Vorbis, .AIFF, and .WAV file types
