Alright, this took me a few hours, so I hope you get something from my comments. Please remember that they are just my thoughts, and I in no way think that I am an expert or anything of the sort.
Here we go:
Track 1
Intro - like it, have it but did not realise that I did, thanks for getting me to notce it.
Mix 1
Was very sudden, an interesting effect but too sudden for me. I like how her vocal (Dreaming) comes in over the ambient track though.
Track 2
Great track, I wonder how FREq can get away with just adding a vocal to one of his other mixes and sells it as something new. He is an awesome producer but man he does not have a very diverse sound.
Mix 2
Smooth, well timed, levels good, tracks in key but I find the mids clash a bit. Good flow of energy, nice smooth progression.
Track 3
Great track, sets mood for things to come.
Mix 3
Very smooth mix, but they sound out of key to me. Quite a drop in energy when track 3 ends. Could have been timed a bit better by starting track 4 64 counts later so that both would drop out at the same time.
Track 4
Another awesome track. Things are getting deeper, darker.
Mix 4
Again, very smooth mix, but off key to my ears. Awesome energy flow with a slight step up into the bouncing bassline. It was a faster mix but worked well... good work taking track 4 out.
Track 5
Great track. =) I really like your progression, and the deeper techy trance is stuff I love so I am into it fer sure.
Mix 5
Consistent smooth mixing, very tight. It sounded off key to me but in reality I realise now after listenig to it a few ties that what throws my ear off is one of the repeating stabs in track 5 are in a minor key which even sounds odd when that track is playing all by itself. A fine step down into a deeper element.
Track 6
Very pensive tune. Mids and highs in this track are quite a bit quitter than the last and could be boosted a wee bit.
Mix 6 (35:50)
Off key to me again. Otherwise I love the mix itself except for the sudden exit of track 6 at the 36:40 mark, although I realise that it probably dropped out. That's the thing with progressive psy, or rather psy in general, I dn't think it is very dj friendly at all. But I think that is why I love the challenge.
Track 7
Matenda rocks, what can I say? =)
Mix 7 (40:49)
Barely out of key, sublte mix and very smooth.
Track 8
This track is very subdued, at this point in your recording it feels like something is going to happen. Tracks 6/7/8 have all had this feeling... but if held too long it may lose it's effect.
Mix 8 (48:15)
Best mix so far for me, in key, awesome step up in energy, subtle but very powerful, but then the energy is lost when it drops out around 49:27. Again, this is the structure of the tracks, not necessarily your mixing, and yet how we fit tracks together is as important as the tracks we select in my mind.
Track 9
Hmm, I like the track, but I am left hungry for a step up in the mix at this point, the progression seems to be lacking, you are still holding back. I am just impatient I think! The track does pick up quite a bit by the end of it as well... and I forget that your mix is 100 min long, not 80.
Mix 9 (54:57)
Awesome mix, everything agrees with me. Energy levels are steping up so my interest is increasing.
Track 10
One of my favorites. =)
Mix 10 (1:00:36)
The new track (Track 11) comes in a bit too stong, too suddenly full range, and the new mids although in key seem to clash a bit with the old ones at first, but then seem to settle in. Thsi may have worked better if you led with the low-end, then transfered the mids a bit later. BUT, it's a great mix, I like the step-up in energy again.
Track 11
This one is new to me and I love it! I like that it is crisp and clear, playful yet still driving. I love dark tunes but I love beautiful ones that are not cheesy so this one is a hit for me. It definitely is a memorable moment in the recording, and I bet it would sound incredible outside.
Mix 11 (1:07:30)
Brilliant fucking mix. Step down in energy, but I am not left resltess.
Track 12
You have this on vinyl? Great track. =) If this off vinyl is sounds great, I find it hard to mix the sound of vinyl and digital, they usually don't sound good together to me.
Mix 12 (1:13:43)
I like the chunky element of the new track, nice contrast. In key and a nice long blend (except for the drop-out at the very end.... fade sooner maybe?). Bring on the funk! I love it.
Track 13
Playfull track at first, another new one to me and i really like it. Where did you get it?
Mix 13 (1:19:10)
Great mix, drops out perfectly, sounds play off each other, energy seems to be maintained in a dreamy space.
Track 14
I was interested in it at the beginning becuase it was mixed very well, but it lost me as it went along. Just does not grab me as much as the four tracks before it.
Mix 14 (1:25:33)
Great mix, nice step up.
Track15
Beautiful vocal, very driving track. I love this one.
Mix 15 (1:30:58)
Quite a sudden transition.
Track 16
I like the idea of ending your mix with a downtempo track.
Overall I liked the mix, I really appreciated that you actually blended most of your mixes for long stretches. I have found very few dj's either willing or able to actually mix psytrance. I know that can be nasty to do since most producers are not very mix-friendly minded when they write the stuff, thanks to the heritage of goa and the cross-fade DAT master of years gone-by.
I enjoyed the flow, but was left a little wanting for a bit more destination, a bit more intensity. I may be too stuck on that classic trance progression type of recording I think....
I have a very sensitive ear when it comes to things being in key, and I sometimes I pick out off-key mixes that others miss, it is a curse in some ways, but I find it is just as important as any other element of putting two tracks together.
Your levels, beatmatching and alignment of track structure is spot on, very tight in my opinion. Awesome.
Thanks for sharing this and I look forward to any that you post in the future!
8/10
