Cakewalk Project 5 v2

OK, i have just (by accident) seen the entire 17 min introduction video of this program, and i must say i am really surprised. As an Ableton user is must say, this Project 5 v2 looks (for my purposes) much better.

The interface is amazing, especially compared with Ableton's and the intuitive workflow looks sooo simple. The thing i liked the most was the device chain option and the way it works.

Anyhow i am downloading the demo and by only watching the video i already know i will be switching over soon.

What are your thoughts about this and are there people in here using Project5 v2?

The video is here: http://www.sonicstate.com/news/shownews.cfm?newsid=2122

I dunno about V2 but V1 i didnt like, i treid the demo and there where little things that really pissed me off
1. you couldnt play your song and edit another part of the song, you had to be where the play bar was
2. i cant remember the others it was that long ago

but that was v1, so v2 might be awesome

I looked at sonar too, but i didnt like the interface, interface is everything to me. Sonar looks so complex. The easier the workflow, the better my results, especially on the creative side.

The only thing that worries me is Project 5 v2 hardly ever gets mentioned, it's all Live, Cubase and Logic (and FL for the newbies and a few pro's). To me that is a bad sign, but that's probably naiive.

If I may...

Hmmm... too bad the search is down, I started a thread upon the launch of the product back in April.

I'm happy to say that this is a "secret weapon" for producing trance and EDM in general. There's only a few of us that have been using this app (and actually, I kinda like the fact that no one knows about it. hehehe)
P5 v2 allows a total open VST and DXi environment and lets you jump in with audio recording and LIVE performance / playback.

Thats really the major difference since v1.... the "Groove Matrix" allows for LIVE performance (glitch-free). You really need to experience this phenom to believe it. I've never seen something work so GLITCH free even when you drop new patterns and add synths while the project is playing!!

To compare it to V1 is actually an injustice. This is not an upgrade. Its a completely new install and its palette of features is MUCH more like a cross between Ableton and REASON. Cakewalk was hoping to avoid the whole "what's better" debate by making it not only a ReWire client but a ReWire HOST! SO you can use it in conjunction with WHATEVER you have already! Personally, I have no other applications ... everything I do is done in P5 right down to the final mixdown. (P5 is relatively simplistic in the mixing/mastering section...thats my only beef)

The program comes with PSYN which has been upgraded to PSYN II, Cyclone (a sample looper/disecter), Velocity (a drum synth), nPulse (another drum synth I haven't had time to play with yet!),Roland® GrooveSynth™, DS864 (a multiformat digital sampler), a new arpeggiator which can be applied to ANY track!, 10 top of the line FX, and a ton of free loops and patterns. This new version also lets you acidize your own patterns to the project tempo with a simple button click.
Just a great app... like you say... weird that it hasn't caught on yet...but it's not even a year old yet so...

The demo unfortunately doesnt give you the REAL secret weapon though...the Dimension Sampler/Synth. Its not like anything you've seen in a synth. See, Rene Cabellos from rgc:audio, has joined Cakewalk now and he produced this synth for P5...he made zeta and Psyn as well and lemme say that DIMENSION is AMAAAAAZING!!! Dimension alone is worth the price. Btw, I see he's selling Dimension as a standalone now (outside of P5) at the Cakewalk website!!!

Just thought I'd give my 2cents seeing as I seem to be one of the pioneers of P5 on tranceaddict.com. Another H00j advantage to this program is the level of support. Check the www.project5.com website and LOOK at the forum!! It it (hands down) the most friendly and informative forum of any DAW around! If you'd like to hear some P5 stuff you can click my signature or go here >> www.DIGITAL-AURA.ca and check my music...as I said... Its all done in P5v2 only. PM me if you want any more info!!
