Producer? DJ? There's a difference?
Apparently not. I'm staggered by how many people in the Top 100 DJs thread are justifying their choices with "well, Track X is a masterpiece" or "Artist Album Y was the best I've heard all year". It would appear that, as ever, people are voting on records these DJs have made, rather than their DJing ability.
Wake up. Some of you must be knuckle-dragging, follow-the-leader idiots of the highest calibre if you are seriously voting based on tracks you like by a DJ. I'm not too bothered about who won or who lost the poll, because ultimately more people will have heard the most popular DJs, so they will get higher placings. That's life: the more you gig, the better the rewards. This is not an attack on the poll, nor the DJs who featured in it. It is an attack on the complete idiots who often frequent the board, people who don't have the first clue what they are talking about.
I haven't seen or heard mixes by enough DJs to make a decision on who I'd consider the best in the world. So I don't vote. Clearly, many of you are in the same situation, but you are big enough or dumb enough fanboys to go ahead and vote based on your minute sphere of knowledge anyway. If so then you're no better than the mindless, spoon-fed pop kiddies who idolise their coke-abusing, over-paid lip-synch specialist pop star heroes.
Rant over. Although I surely can't be the only one who feels this way.
