Be Cool! Can trance be considered underground music yet? or just popular music?

I was talking with some friends and we start thinking about this...

I read trance in 99 was so pop, with lots of parties and radios... etc, everybody wanted know trance...
today, there are only some popular parties like sensation where trance is there too, with house and other more commercial music...
the most famous djs are turning into the more commercial scene but we know there are underground artists too...

so, somebody that lived 99 (maybe before) and continue in trance music, can explain it to me and other people that have the same question?

imo, trance is not more sooo underground is almost reaching the popular music status... techno is undergound yet...

sorry if I"m wrong, im ready to change my oppinion if somebody explain it to me...

Trance music and music in general will always contains a part of commercial and a part of underground...by definition, commercial part sucks, and underground rocks. In my opinion, you can't really know if trance is more commercial or more underground : both parts will always exist.

Trance or EDM is more popular now then the early 90s...at least in Canada. For the longest time it was considered underground music however, now it's in the clubs and not some random warehouse where you need to call a number to find a location to get a map to get to the warehouse

Well, psy trance can certainly still be considered underground in most parts of the world.

i'd say it depends on where you live...around here, rap and rock is the in thing, and electronic music is referred to as "techno bullshit"

hey look a bc psy trance fan.... heh i'm from the island

anyway... the trance scene depends a whole lot on where you are... for us in Canada... forget it... but in like maybe... Germany or england or goa chances are... it's huge. generally... though... the best trance is in the underground scene... main stream kinda sucks... you get guys like bob miles and sammy screwin everything up for new trancers...

99.9% of people I meet in person have never heard the word 'trance' in their entire lives. I'd say that makes it underground enough.

it ain't underground...is just unknown at all

in mexico...whatever genre of dance music is...they call it "punchis-punchis"

they don't say "ohh...it's trance" or "house"...don't know about the difference between them

mexicans are whoring psy trance lately...9 out of 10 raves are about psy trance...and they still call it underground...but in my opinion

"yeah...right"

the good trance tracks are still underground

but generally speaking, progressive house is the "new" trance
